School shoes that can cope with dc4 falling over

I need something similar to the crawlers/cruisers with the rubber sole that carries on over the toes instead of just being underneath. Hope that makes sense. 7 year old ds falls over a lot and his shoes keep getting holes in the toes. Bought him yet another pair of school shoes yesterday to replace the worn out ones and today he came out of school with holes in the toes again. He needs boots to support his ankles and straps because he can't tie laces so our choice is already extremely limited.

Maybe have a look at Geox? Or Ecco?
Why is he falling over so much?

FlibbertyGiblets · 07/05/2021 22:26

Piedro boots could be suitable.
Have you a paed for his mobility issues? That would be a start. Or may be the school nurse can advise?

HoppingPavlova · 07/05/2021 22:38

It’s not typical to fall over so much at 7yo. I’d be more worried by that than the shoes tbh.

Thankyou. He is under the paeds and orthotics. He had piedro boots when he was little but orthotics say that his insoles are enough for him now. Sorry for the drip feed but if I gave his medical history every time I wrote a post about his shoes then I would never get anything else done. I'll have a look at geox and ecco.

Don't apologise, share as much or as little about your lad as you feel comfortable with.

Try a search under boy school boots rubber bumper.
That should pull up some to consider.

Ricosta school shoes are v good quality, my hypermobile DS2 was forever tripping over and scuffing the front of his shoes. Several of their styles have bumpers, like these:

Geox Savage, the woman in the shop told me they’d last a full school year and they do. They have a rubber bit that comes up over the toe.

BungleandGeorge · 07/05/2021 23:31

Some ricosta have a toe bumper, I think they’re more durable than the rubber ones and you can take the insole out to put an orthotic inside. ricosta.co.uk/boys-c9/school-c24/ricosta-johno-4720800-090-medium-fit-black-leather-boys-rip-tape-school-shoes-p21326/s208138?cid=GBP&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIpo_co8-48AIVYQMGAB3ZOgOfEAQYByABEgKPDPD_BwE

Is he under OT? If so, they should have good recommendations that would be best for him all round and include the scuffing issue.

ittakes2 · 08/05/2021 06:46

barefoot shoe company?

Puffalicious · 08/05/2021 06:52

Treads are utterly amazing. They are guaranteed to last 12 months or they will replace them. Total game changer for DS2 14 who wrecked so many shoes previously including Clarks, Startrite, Kickers etc. Geox are also very good but honestly his shoes still look new 8 months in.

Treads are extremely hard wearing

Alwaystired99 · 08/05/2021 07:06

Hi @elliejjtiny , my son is 6 1/2 and frequently falls over too. He's got talipes which was corrected but unfortunately one foot is now reverting so I'm interested in your replies. He can't have surgery for a few more years so trying to manage it in other ways but finding supportive shoes, especially round the ankles is hard. He also had the piedros when he was tiny. If you don't mind me asking what insoles has he got? Hope you find some decent shoes for him.

Ilovechocolatetoomuch · 08/05/2021 07:44

My son usually has startrite, this year he had geox which also had a large two bumper.
I find independent shoe shops tend to have a good range.

midgedude · 08/05/2021 07:58

If new shoes get hole after a few falls have you taken them back? Children's shoes should cope with rough and TUMBLE
