Has anyone else been waiting a huge amount of time for hospital appointments

I am getting so fed up.
I totally appreciate that Covid has mucked up the hospital appointment system but.....
I’ve been waiting 8 months for a procedure and am getting nowhere chasing it up.
A scan in August shows that I have uterine polyps and a possible adenoma. I had a gynaecology telephone consultation back in September and was told that I need a hysteroscopy to remove the polyps and have a biopsy.
I waited until December then rang the secretary and left endless voicemails messages, no response. Left emails, no response. So in January I contacted PALS and then received a phone call from the head of women and children services. Sorry she said but everything has been delayed because of Covid.
Due to the complications of the polyps I am very anaemic and have ferritin levels of 5, every day is like wading through concrete. My gp has expedited a letter to gynae asking for the appointment to be ASAP. That was 2 months ago and still nothing.
I’ve tried ringing again today but no answer.
I am also waiting to have a follow up scan on a kidney cyst in December, obviously via a different department but again that has been put on hold and all I get from the secretary is, sorry Covid has meant everything is delayed.
I was also referred to gastroenterology in May last year and all I have had from them is a letter asking me if I really need the appointment because, due to a Covid they are overrun with referrals! God only knows when I will get an appointment with them?
Yet fil has had two procedures privately and had them both done a week after consultation!!
I am so frustrated as I feel like crap.
Anyone else waiting and waiting and waiting...........?

It sounds like private is the way to go, but out if reach for most of us.

ssd sadly that’s out of reach for me too.
MaverickDanger your poor friend, it’s disgusting it really is. My mil passed away last September whilst waiting for treatment which was delayed. My friends nephew died this March from bowel cancer, he was waiting for treatment, he was just 48.

Yep same here, it's a nightmare and really feel for anyone who is going through waiting lists.

My DC has been waiting for adenoid / tonsil removal since Feb '19, was booked in for op last May but obviously cancelled. Apparently we are about half way through the waiting list now so another potential year to go! DC has obstructive sleep apnoea and it's awful listening to them sleep. Also on waiting lists for speech therapy at a clinic, but again, not really sure how long of a wait that will be.. Sad

DP's cancer went from no spread to liver mets in the time it took them to stop faffing about during the first lockdown.

Yes. My 6 year-old has been waiting 2 years for an operation. My 7 year-old waited 6 months for a hearing test that showed his hearing had got worse but not bad enough for treatment so we are nearly at the end of a 5 month wait for another test.

Justonedayatatime11 · 07/05/2021 09:41

Yes. I had an MRI in October 2020 which showed multi level cervical spine degeneration. Despite numerous calls to the consultants secretary and my own GP, I've still not been seen and the pain is getting worse. Definitely can't afford to go private Sad

Thankfully for DS we seem to be finally catching up. The worst was the test he was referred for within 6 weeks in January 2020 which only happened in January 2021 which has diagnosed him with a condition serious enough we now have to carry emergency injections everywhere!

They really do need to invest in a major catch up program

I’ve been In Agony with my wisdom teeth waiting for a date since last February. My back teeth are cracked now from the pressure of them.

I feel for you. My ds had the same. I don’t think I slept much at all during those years, he would regularly stop breathing in his sleep it was so scary. He’s a big strapping 15 year old now!

The government will have to do something. This is awful, Covid will have such a long lasting impact on our health system it’s frightening.
