Someone else's appointment on medical records

Name changed as I've told a couple of friends and I'm not sure if this is a big deal or not.

I downloaded the NHS app at her weekend (not track and trace, just the normal one) and there's a list of GP appointments and one of them isn't mine.

My name is quite common and there's a woman called it in the next village who lives on a similar sounding street. I used to live in that village and got her post once or twice which is how I know about her.

Anyway the appointment refers to an appointment attended at that village's surgery. My GP has two locations.

It also tells me what the appointment was for, definitely something I do not have.

I called the GP and the receptionist sounded shocked and apologised. I said no worries just please remove it.

I've since told a couple of friends who think it's really bad. I hadn't considered she may have some of my details on her records.

Do I need to do anything else? I understand mistakes happen etc but feel uncomfortable that my anxiety/MH history might be more public than I thought!

Thank you if you've read all that

You need to report it to the Practice Manager. It is a data breach.

Thank you, I don't really want to get anyone in trouble. It's just that my records are a bit embarrassing.

It sounds like the appointment was made in the wrong name.

Docsmix · 06/05/2021 10:23

It tells me what she was prescribed and what for. I think they've clicked the name and just glanced at the address and used that one.

Either the appointment was made in the wrong name and never picked up or it was a clinician error.

Either way, it's a big cock up and I would email the Practice manager.

Thank you. I emailed and received a call to say it was their mistake and they've amended my record.

I asked if they have got any of my details on the other person with my name and he said they've not checked but highly unlikely Confused

Please ask them to check your records for incorrect information. This happened to my Dh. However he was recorded as dead ! Simply to men with exactly the same name and someone updated the wrong person.
Was an interesting conversation when he did go to the GP.

Bloody hell! I bet the GP was really shocked Grin

The receptionist went white, when my Dh went in to book an appointment. Luckily we knew the other person who had died (small boating community has its upsides). As we had already had ‘condolences for our loss’, from the other family’s appointed social worker when they mistakenly visited...we were expecting there to be a problem.
Dh did have very good care afterwards from the practice.
