If only I did Confused.

What is going on atm? Soo many zombies, is it hq who think things are slow and resurrect the not time specific ones? Or are posters that bored they feel the need to post on threads from August?

If the subjects are so interesting post your own NEW threads... Please Smile.

Zombie threads should only ever be resurrected for juicy updates from the OP.

Geamhradh · 06/05/2021 07:06

Does it matter?
Maybe a new poster isn't used to the rolling Active system?
And....who made you the boss of MN?

MoreAloneTime · 06/05/2021 07:08

I had more sympathy a decade ago and would give people the benefit of the doubt that they maybe didn't understand how Internet forums worked.

Sparklingbrook · 06/05/2021 07:13

They’re always pages long aren’t they? Resurrected by spammers of trolls. Nobody seems to resurrect a thread with two posts on. Confused

BogRollBOGOF · 06/05/2021 07:23

Has she got the carpet sorted yet?
Did the dinosaurs actually exist?
It's great when someone recommends their own pram to themselves 6m later. Grin

Sparklingbrook · 06/05/2021 07:26

The carpet one must be due it’s annual resurrection about now.

newnortherner111 · 06/05/2021 07:39

@MoreAloneTime I agree, or at least an update where relevant. Though I still read some for a laugh. Nothing could ever beat the penis beaker!

Sparklingbrook · 06/05/2021 07:42

Nobody wants a resurrection of Penis Beaker it was a load of unfunny cobblers the first time.

Giantrooster · 06/05/2021 10:14

But it's never the threads you really wanted an update on that are resurrected. It's always the answer from the heading alone eg 'worst mil story' etc. Who are those resurrectors and why?

When I go on MN in the evening because it's only reruns on the telly, I don't expect reruns here too.

It is really annoying when you get bots posting nonsense, like the TV licence one that came up today.

But you get a warning before you post on a thread so why do people insist on doing it? Start your own thread (referencing the old one if needsbe).

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 06/05/2021 10:21

Anyone see the zombie resurection of the covid threads from January last year? It was fascinating.

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 06/05/2021 10:22

*resurrection

Giantrooster · 06/05/2021 10:30

@poppycat10 sorry where do you get a warning? Never seen it, but probably because I'm on the app Smile.

That must have been fun, luckily I didn't see it Grin.

ChessieFL · 06/05/2021 10:33

You only get a warning if you’re the one resurrecting the zombie. Once it’s been resurrected and a few more people have posted the warning vanishes.

I think a lot of zombies are due to people googling their query, finding a Mumsnet thread and just posting on it without understanding the etiquette.

HartstonesMustard · 06/05/2021 10:34

@Giantrooster you only get the zombie thread warning if you are the poster who resurrects the thread. After that it doesn't get shown again.

This has been brought up several times in Site Stuff and all we get from MNHQ is we'll think about it.

I have started checking for dates the second I open a thread now. It is disappointing how many zombie threads there are.

Giantrooster · 06/05/2021 10:39

Thank you both that makes sense. I know there have been several threads on the number of zombies, but I think it is getting worse atm.

Aren't HQ known for thinking long and hard on just about everything, years long and hard Grin.

There was some worry about putting off newbies although obviously the bollocking is surely more off putting.

ItsCokeFFS · 06/05/2021 11:08

It is an interesting insight into the number of people who read nothing apart from the opening post.

They must realise that there are 100s of replies, but don't feel the need to so much as glance at a single one, not even the few posts directly above their reply (which are all shouting ZOMBIE)

Unfortunately, you can be on a loooong thread, but if you decide to reply straight away without reading anyone else's replies, your message box opens at the bottom of page 1, so even if you did glance at the previous posts, you wouldn't spot the people telling you that it's a zombie.

I see 100 posts per page, but when I first used MN it was only 10 (until I realised that I could change my settings!)

Having to go to the end of a thread before you can post a reply might help with this. I have suggested it before, but along with keeping the zombie warning active, it is being "thought about".
