My monthly united utilities bill is £55
It’s not a water meter I just pay a monthly fee.

Is this normal?

I paid considerably more on a fixed rate than on a meter.

Fixed rate was £50-£60, on a meter I've fluctuated between £28 and £35.

lastqueenofscotland · 05/05/2021 19:48

I’m on a fixed rate and it’s £42 pcm

blackteaplease · 05/05/2021 19:50

£25pcm here, no meter and we aren't on mains sewarage.

AhaShakeHeartbreak12 · 05/05/2021 19:52

£39

EcoCustard · 05/05/2021 20:09

Currently pay £16Grin. However we were paying £80 as we had a damaged meter and no one would listen, finally sorted in February. Should be around £45-50.

MusicMenu · 05/05/2021 20:12

For water and sewage, £80 pm on a meter, but have two teen boys who spend a lot of time in the shower and a gardening habit that can't possibly be the cause of such high bills

BelleBlueBell · 05/05/2021 20:19

Are you asking if paying a fixed amount is normal if you aren't on a meter - yes it is

Or, is your amount normal - it's fixed in relation to your rateable value so normal doesn't come into it, it is what it is

Mirrorxx · 05/05/2021 20:21

We’ve just moved and it went from 30 to 50 w month. Whcih seems a lot for 2 people

QueenPaw · 05/05/2021 20:22

About £22 on a meter

Plexie · 05/05/2021 20:23

I've learnt from previous threads on this subject that water bills vary greatly across the country. London is cheap compared with many areas. We pay less than £20 per month, on a meter.

£50 could be normal for some areas.

NoraButty · 05/05/2021 20:25

£54 per month (fixed rate - not on a meter) but it’s for 10 months a year not 12.

minniemomo · 05/05/2021 20:26

I was paying £98 a month (over 8 months? Severn Trent on council tax e fixed. Now got a meter, Wessex water and it's £56 currently fir 2 normal adults (daily shower) and a water shy one (only when I nag)

Trinacham · 05/05/2021 20:26

£18.50 a month for a couple here

lostlife · 05/05/2021 20:27

£133.80 a month. Not on a meter

RaiseTheBeastie · 05/05/2021 20:27

£80 per month, standard rate. Bloody extortionate.

We're having a meter fitted next month which my water company tells me will probably half it. If not we've got 6 months to change our mind and ask them to remove it.

poorbuthappy · 05/05/2021 20:29

£72 a month. Welsh water.
5 of us and a combo boiler which takes minutes to give us hot water.
So no. Never will have a meter.

Em8725 · 05/05/2021 20:32

£24 per month. It decreased from £40 (water leak at the meter) just as I agreed to put it in my name 😀.

Family of 4, daily dishwasher and a few loads in the washing machine, nightly bath for the kids and daily shower for DH and I. I think it’s really cheap.

TriSeaSwim99 · 05/05/2021 20:33

Depends where you live in the country. There isn’t a standard rate across the country which I think is unfair. The SW pays the highest water bills because of all the coastline, lower density of population and need for clean beaches. The bills were so high the government gave SW water customers all a £50 rebate on their annual bills. £55 a month would be considered low in the SW.

Dddccc · 05/05/2021 20:34

£26 fixed rate a month over 10 months so 260 a year

Twospaniels · 05/05/2021 20:34

I pay £30 per month on a meter, but we are not on mains sewerage, so just pay for the water coming in.

WhenTheDragonsCame · 05/05/2021 20:39

I pay £27.79 a month with Severn Trent Water over 10 months. It went up from about £25 in April.

It's for a 3 bed house with 1 adult and 2 children.

RunHobbitRun · 05/05/2021 20:39

Rateable value (fixed rate) is based on your property value/size much like council tax.

It can seem steep if you're low users of water but if you have a large family/love gardening/have a hot water tank that needs "running off"/like using paddling pools/swimming pools/hot tubs then rateable value will save you a fortune because once you've switched to a meter and the trial time expires there's no going back.

Given the choice I'd have rateable value over a meter to not be stressed about using water. It's the only utility that has this potential option of fixed rate no matter the usage.

CoastAlong · 05/05/2021 20:42

Nothing. We're not on mains water.

Malin52 · 05/05/2021 20:43

Nothing. It comes for free from the sky and sits in big tanks in the garden.

Had to pay for a water delivery maybe once in the past 5 years during a v dry summer £150.

GOODCAT · 05/05/2021 20:48

£8 a month for a couple on a water meter. We only have a shower not a bath otherwise normal usage, wash cars etc. That doesn't include sewerage though.
