Wow!

Holy shit. I hope she’s got a supportive family.

IsolaPribby · 05/05/2021 14:40

I saw this too. Wow! Does anyone know whether they were concieved naturally?

Soubriquet · 05/05/2021 14:40

Goodness me. I suffered being pregnant with one. Couldn’t imagine having 9 babies inside me.

Was it a natural conception though? As in no fertility drugs or IVF?

I can’t see it being completely natural and I also can’t see it being ethical either.

It takes a huge toll on a woman to be pregnant with twins or triplets let alone the problems to the babies including things like T2T syndrome. 9 babies just isn’t safe

TeaAddict235 · 05/05/2021 15:19

Why don't we celebrate the wonder of the female body rather than slinging out disgust and dismay?

Think about how small and vulnerable and how precious each one of those babies are. Think about how she is trying to love and comfort each one each day and night. Think about her concerns about the virus. Think about her husband and the fear he my have had throughout the pregnancy.

Celebrate don't 'player' hate

Soubriquet · 05/05/2021 15:23

It’s not about disgust or dismay. It’s about the fact that this is a huge risk to both mother and babies and the article already states that there is a chance some of those babies will die anyway.

It isn’t ethical to allow a woman’s body to be put through this. We aren’t dogs. We aren’t made to birth many multiples

TeaAddict235 · 05/05/2021 15:32

Yes but she has had them now @Soubriquet . What do you propose? That she gets a tut tut on the back of her hand? We can nearly be sure that she won't be opting to have another 9 again as multiples. From a human science point of view, she is a wonder. Let's not point a downer on this.

Clymene · 05/05/2021 15:33

There's no way that was a natural pregnancy.

LaurieFairyCake · 05/05/2021 15:34

Lol at 'wonder of female body' Confused

Not if it's not a natural pregnancy

Hope she recovers well

Soubriquet · 05/05/2021 15:35

Yes a miracle. Now it will be a miracle if she ever fully recovers and not suffer life long lasting affects of this pregnancy

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 05/05/2021 15:37

Good luck to her and the babies.
Imagine finding out you have two more babies than expected after birth.

legalseagull · 05/05/2021 15:39

I wouldn't see it as a miracle tbh. She could have died, likely some of the babies will die and if they all survive, how on earth will she care for 9 babies. That poor woman

NiceGerbil · 05/05/2021 15:43

There's no indication this was not natural, although that is an awful lot of babies!

Sounds like with the media interest which should be lucrative and the government helping, hopefully she will be ok financially and get help looking after them etc

EssentialHummus · 05/05/2021 15:43

If it wasn’t a natural/spontaneous conception then I think a discussion of ethics is absolutely appropriate. Which clinic / doctor sanctioned this? On what grounds?

I’m expecting twins and it’s not a walk in the park for me or my body or these two children. Nine? Really?

HumunaHey · 05/05/2021 15:45

Yeah, exactly, she could have died. An example of why it is a miracle.

No but I can’t see it being natural. Can you?

HumunaHey · 05/05/2021 15:48

I suspect it's natural conception. Another article I read said she was from a poor West African country and gad to be flown out for better care. I doubt she could afford IVF or the like.
ThankYouHunkyJesus · 05/05/2021 15:49

Blimey twins was hard enough.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 05/05/2021 15:52

Don't see anything to celebrate about this.

Because we don't find it wondrous at all?

Think about trying to look after 9 newborns at once. Think about trying to raise and educate 9 children all at once, in a very poor country. Think about the damage done to her body and mind and life by having a ridiculous number of babies at once.

This is not something to celebrate. This is not a wonderful miracle. It's obscene.

Agree,

Nor is it ethical for one mother to be responsible for nearly a dozen newborns. Let's not act like this is a lovely sparkly fairytale. Good luck to her and the babies but, it's very tough.

GoldenBolden · 05/05/2021 16:02

Not a big fan of the BBC reporting her children as a "brood" either. She's not an animal.

HarebrightCedarmoon · 05/05/2021 16:03

Ridiculous and irresponsible of the fertility treatment provider to implant so many eggs, that's why there are regulations about this. However I hope the mum and babies are ok and wish them well.

minniemomo · 05/05/2021 16:05

Hopefully she'll be able to cope financially and nobody takes advantage of her for financial gain eg unscrupulous companies. Whether it is natural I'm sure we will find out, fertility drugs can be to blame, yes it's a poor country but whether she was poor who knows

KeflavikAirport · 05/05/2021 16:15

She is a young black Muslim woman from one of the poorest countries in the world. I seriously doubt this was IVF.

WrongKindOfFace · 05/05/2021 16:21

No, but you can buy fertility drugs such as clomid relatively cheaply online. Or from a pharmacy in some countries. Or you take left over drugs belonging to someone else.

Nine babies in distinctly unlikely to happen naturally.
