Not that I pay attention to them, don't even follow them and only got on twitter yesterday. Just came across this news online and I have to say I'm shocked. Didn't know they had "divorce-worthy" problems...but then, why should I?!

My first thought was their youngest is 18 now. Perhaps Melinda was waiting for an escape. I can’t imagine Bill being easy to live with!

PicsInRed · 04/05/2021 17:31

Cherchez? There are already some hints and theories online.

They're all so disappointing aren't they. Poor Melinda - sounds like she's put up with a fair bit.

ItWasLikeThatWhenIGotHere · 04/05/2021 17:32

I hope that they can indeed continue to work together amicably. Their personal lives are none of our business, but the work that they’ve been doing as a couple has been world changing.

It was the first thing computer mad DS14 said to me this morning and he is not into gossip at all, so even he thought it surprising.

I've not looked into any theories but it is sad for them and their family. You want to think there is at least one gazillionare who has a happy marriage/partnership. I've heard her interviewed and she came across as so intelligent, astute and warm.

Incidentally a close friend met Melinda and one of their daughters on holiday (friend takes very very luxurious holidays) when their girls formed a brief holiday friendship. She said they were both lovely. Didn't stay in touch though!

Can I ha e his phone number?

Howdthathappen · 04/05/2021 17:46

🤣 I heard there are already women lining up to slide into his dms. You better hurry!

Yes, like Priscilla Chan and MacKenzie Scott, the philanthropy was absolutely driven from Melinda's side. These women deserve an enormous amount of credit.

Howdthathappen · 04/05/2021 17:47

Crazy idea but do you think the divorce settlement is another way to secure some things for her children, seeing as Bill says they wouldn't inherit anything? I don't know if she felt the same way or not.

newnortherner111 · 04/05/2021 19:44

It is not really any of our business.

HollowTalk · 04/05/2021 19:46

I don't think he said they wouldn't inherit anything, did he? He meant he wasn't going to leave billions of dollars to them and I don't blame him, either. He wants them to work and be independent.

HollowTalk · 04/05/2021 19:47

He's a workaholic and I think divorce is inevitable for many couples once the children have left home.

HollowTalk · 04/05/2021 19:53

Inevitable for many couples where one is a workaholic, I mean!

LittlestBoho · 04/05/2021 19:55

Oh I bet the QANONs are loving this. Wonder what theory they've invented to explain it? Her mind control chip stopped working and now she's going rogue to uncover his evil plan of world domination?

In seriousness though it is quite sad after they have done so much good for the world together through their foundation.

Ah right! That's my theory foiled then. Thought it was nothing for them.

Hahahaha.
World famous multi multi zillionaire couple divorce - not our business - not much. I bet he's met someone younger.
The DCs get 10 million dollars each.

EachandEveryone · 06/05/2021 00:17

I imagine hes met someone as well

NiceGerbil · 06/05/2021 00:23

27 years is a good run especially for people in their position who would have had younger people chucking themselves at them esp him.

They are going to continue the charity together etc.

Their kids are grown, they will continue working together for the charity.

All seems grown up and amicable.

Startingagainperson · 06/05/2021 00:26

I don’t know why but I’m disappointed. I just want to see some couples stay together forever who are in the public eye, to show that loyalty and commitment are still important.

I’m speaking as someone twice separated so maybe I just want some optimism to my cynicism!

And part of me thinks... oh no... yet again a man wants to trade in for a younger woman. (I might be entirely wrong but often seems the case, and if so, so so so so sick of it!)

Frownette · 06/05/2021 00:34

Well, they had their reasons. I was surprised as well. Doubt it's anything showstopping.

Melinda came across as being a good person and there are 3 children to consider. They had a nice life together, that we know of.

ItWasLikeThatWhenIGotHere · 06/05/2021 08:40

Nice that they’ve sorted out the financial settlement in advance between them and won’t be having an unedifying court battle.

BraveBraveMouse · 06/05/2021 08:43

How sad for them as a family. They seem like wonderful people.
