Pocket money

Boring topic I know, but my eldest is almost 6 now and we are thinking about starting to give her some pocket money. Just wondering what an appropriate amount is / what to ask her to do in exchange?

I was thinking 50p a week in exchange for her making sure her bedroom is vaguely tidy before she goes to school (just picking up clothes off the floor really). I thought it was enough that she could save up for a few weeks to buy a little something from the charity shop now they're open again, or buy some sweets if not. I don't know what the going rate is though and maybe I'm being a total miser so thought I'd try to get a sense of what others do so grateful for any thoughts!

That sounds good as a start. We don't link pocket money to chores though, helping round the house is just being part of the family unit, you don't get paid for it - and it opens you up to refusals to tidy up if she'd rather not do it than get pocket money!

@rbe78 that's a good point, hadn't thought of it that way!
