I booked the flights early last September when things were looking hopeful, they were a bargain at £75 each return Gatwick to Alicante. It wasn't a refundable fare but came with the option of free amendments or exchange before April next year so we thought it was worth doing.
I had a lovely villa booked(fully refundable) but we were still not confident that we would be able to travel and had been expecting to have to change the booking.
Our airline changed the flights and as a result, we were offered a full refund or alternate flight from a different airport..........given the current situation we took the opportunity to cancel. My head knows it's the right decision but my heart is sad that we will not get our 2 weeks in the sun..........we were planning a big trip this year to celebrate some special events.
Even if travel is allowed it would still be very difficult for us as one of my children has learning difficulties/autism and testing is almost impossible.
I am keeping my fingers crossed for a sunny week in Devon.
I know there are greater issues at the moment but holidays are a special time for us. Two weeks in a villa with a big private pool tucked away from the world where the children can play and we can relax helps me keep going through the year.............life with a child who has special needs can be very stressful.
