Who else hears music when they dream?

I wake occasionally during the night and nap sometimes in the day. For many years I am aware of music in the background of my dreams. Mostly it’s similar to the Galadriel scene in LOTR, ethereal with a woman’s voice though it can change slightly from dream to dream. Mine have always been vivid and I can be in the dream and aware of it, if that makes sense. I know also that colour exists in dreams. The music is obviously created by my mind, variable yet generic. No, it’s not the radio left on and nobody else lives close. Who else hears music when dreaming, just curious?

How fascinating!

No, I hear music in my head most of the time when I'm awake, like a constant soundtrack, but not in my dreams. My dreams are vivid and are always in colour, and I can feel emotions and textures, but don't have sound of any sort.

I can also be in the dream and aware. Last night I was desperately trying to wake up out of a disturbing dream and couldn't. When I did finally wake I was so stressed I had to talk it through with DH.

My dreams have been far more vivid since lockdown, it's weird. I guess it's my mind trying to process stuff.

Yes, I have had musical dreams, also dancing to music (with me doing amazing dancing :-). I love dreams.

Yes I occasionally get this. The dream is like a very loud but vivid orchestra playing. I always think the music is beautiful and wish I was a musician so I could compose the music when I wake up! And interesting what you say about colour as the dreams I have with the music often look very vivid and colourful as well.

That’s great! Glad I’m not a rarity, at least on that score. You could try controlling your dream @DramaAlpaca which I can do sometimes, but occasionally I try too hard and it wakes me. It’s great to send it in the right direction sometimes.

I do, and then invariably I wake up and I'm hearing the radio

Me and I hate it. I call it "songitis". I get woken up because of music in my dreams and then lie there in a kind of semi coma with the same song churning through my head.

Yes! I sleep absolutely terribly, rarely get more than a couple of hours, I often start drifting off then wake with a start and the music suddenly stops. It's weird to describe! I do tend to watch boxsets so the same theme tune over and over between episodes so many times and they pop up in dreams. I never realised anyone else had this! I'm a weird dreamer though, I tend to dream in the theme of what I've been doing or watching so if I did puzzles, I'll puzzle in my dreams. I also have some lucid dreams, well some where I know I'm dreaming and can steer what I do so I'll have to see if I can affect the music in dreams too!

Sometimes it happens to me when I listen to some particular song for days, so it won't leave me alone even in my sleep. Or when I work on another Smarthshow 3d project and can't choose the perfect soundtrack, so later the music chases me in my dream, too.

I had a fantastic dream a while ago where I was walking through the streets singing at the top of my voice and as I was flinging my arms around buildings were lighting up in pretty colours and fireworks were going off. It was so much fun.

I have really vivid dreams, good when they’re fun, not so good when they’re scary!

Hufflepuffsunite · 04/05/2021 07:18

Yes I often dream of music. Usually classical which is odd as I don't listen to much classical music when awake! It's beautiful though. I also have very vivid dreams, often of beautiful or even sometimes quite menacing landscapes. I can lucid dream too - I find this happening more and more as I get older!

I wake up every day with a few bars of a song playing in a loop in my head. Can be one I’ve not heard in years or a recent one, I don’t even have to like it! Seems there’s no logic and it’s been like this my whole life. DP finds it fascinating and often asks me what song is playing as I wake. I can usually remember the song more often than I can the dream.
