Nor enough lighthearted threads on her tonight. So, what's something that you're family has a different word for.

For example, as kids, we always used to call fuzzy slippers "muffins".

Ravioli is called elephants in our house. Ds started with it when he was about 2 and it's stuck since oh and hodgehegs for hedgehogs.

MumofSpud · 03/05/2021 23:37

Balls (the anatomical kind) are nuk nuks (no idea where that came from

Ham sandwich is a hanger Sanger

A witch is an 'e e' (DD used to call them this after the sound they made!)

A hug / cuddle is a huggle - I thought this was just our word and was in a shop once when another mum said it to her DC - she must have thought I was strange as I looked at her and said we have huggles too (she scooped up her DC sharpish!)

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 03/05/2021 23:37

‘I’m stuffed to the highest heaven’ (Full up, from a little dd)

JustanotherTuesday · 03/05/2021 23:42

Stuffed tortellini is known as ear pasta, as my youngest thought they resembled ears. It took ages to work out what he meant. He's early twenties now but still calls them that.

SkiingIsHeaven · 03/05/2021 23:43

Lamb kebabs / koftas and called donkey dicks in our house.

Needless to say I can't eat them anymore.

UnlimitedChipsAndSalsa · 03/05/2021 23:44

@MumofSpud "hanger sanger" sounds so much more exciting. Smile

@Happycat1212

My mum use to call curry Kerry and for ages we called it that to the point I actually thought Kerry and curry were two different things. Only found out when I was older she meant curry 😕
@HappyCat1212 She isn't from Sunderland by any chance is she?!
SciFiScream · 03/05/2021 23:47

My DS used to say let's go "backforwards" instead of backwards

He also called a camera a "smile"

Piemam · 03/05/2021 23:49

@Lollypop4, we call them Feetabix!

PennineWayinSlingbacks · 03/05/2021 23:49

My 25 year old DD was recently shocked to find out that 'fish hands' is not, in fact, the universally accepted term for breaded cod, ie bigger than fish fingers. That's all she's known them as for a quarter of a century.

UnlimitedChipsAndSalsa · 03/05/2021 23:53

@Penninewayinslingbacks "fish hands" is giving me the giggles!

OP posts:
weegiemum · 03/05/2021 23:55

We all a swimming costume a "swimmy". We did when I was small and I always used that word. In laws think it's hilarious.

Woahbodyforrrrm · 04/05/2021 00:04

McDonalds is McSossles Ee-ei-oh, as this was what my little boy used to call it.

We also have to drive down a steep hill to get to our house, my eldest son used to say 'Teddy bear weeeee weeeeeeee' every time we drove down it 🥰

Itreallytiedtheroomtogether · 04/05/2021 00:12

Calpol is Cowpoo here Grin

KangarooSally · 04/05/2021 00:13

Butter chicken is "red soup" for one of my sisters family

clpsmum · 04/05/2021 00:15

We call duvets night nights after my dc2 starting it. He also started chocolate sausage rolls when trying to ask for profiteroles!

HollyHocks13 · 04/05/2021 00:17

My kids like 'Nobbly Bobbly' brand ice lollies but have always called them 'Hombly Bomblies' since they were little. My 15 year old son only discovered last week what they're really called!

Plinkplonk1234 · 04/05/2021 00:27

We call any type of trackie bottoms or pyjamas 'night night bottoms' as DS used call his pj's night night bottoms and tops.
We also call a screwdriver the goo..die..da and call foals the 'calf of a horse'.

SaucyHorse · 04/05/2021 00:33

We call burgers handburgers. Because you eat them with your hands. Started as a stupid joke but anyone listening to us now would think we were idiots.

FruityPolos · 04/05/2021 00:48

When our 4 year old DD keeps asking for things DP and I say she is 'wanta wanting' as she used to just say 'wanta wanta wanta' when she wanted snacks when she was about 2.

We also get our burgers from Old McDonald's. Or if we make them at home we have Gouda cheese on them which is 'Goood-a on my foood-a' (!).

Puffalicious · 04/05/2021 01:02

Hodilays- DS16 still calls them this.
Allsores (ulcers) but it's so cute and they are sore!
Shmoober doober (remote)
The beep beep (cashpoint)

cheeseislife8 · 04/05/2021 01:08

We have burglars instead of burgers, and pigs in knickers instead of pigs in blankets .

DH also says demond instead of demon but that's just wrong Grin

ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 04/05/2021 01:27

We un-inside-out our clothes.
And as a treat when I can be bothered we have flat egg sandwiches for breakfast (fried egg)
Both thanks to DS1 who is now 16.

And DS2 (14) still loves Tom Toes or Banyas as a snack. That's tomatoes and bananas to anyone else.

BritInAus · 04/05/2021 01:29

@OutspokenNotThatFunny

When ds used to get pins n needles of sat funny. He'd say he had 'fizzy feet' . That's stuck!
That's really cute! My DD says she has 'sprinkles' in her feet!
NoLeafClover · 04/05/2021 01:29

When DH and I want to get settled in for a nice night of relaxing together on the sofa, one of us will say 'shall we get Humphrey Bogart?'. It started when I once tried to say 'I want to get comfy' but tripped over my words and it came out comfrey. Which then turned into Humphrey. Which then turned into Humphrey Bogart. It's nonsense, but makes us laugh every time.
