Why the hell is the Apple Watch stand ring so difficult to close?

It's really annoying me now.
Any advice?
TIA

It’s not 🤷🏼‍♀️

I don’t find it is... every hour I’ve not stood up, it gives me a warning at ten to the hour so unless I’m on a video call I make time to stand up and stretch which usually counts for that hour. Even when I miss an hour because I’m on a call you need 12 over the day (unless you’ve changed your settings) so I get mine in easily - getting up at 6 and going to bed at 10.

conywarp · 03/05/2021 19:28

Are you standing up enough?

mineofuselessinformation · 03/05/2021 20:53

I stand up. I move around a little as it says, but clearly it's too little or too much.
I even sets timers.
It's so frustrating!

I hate this bastard ring.

Buzzing me when I'm laid in bed at 2pm stuffing my face with crisps. If I wanna stay on my arse for 3 hours I bloody well will you patronising little bastard.

Impatientwino · 03/05/2021 21:04

My stand one is fine - the difficulty I have is with my exercise one Grin

'Just a short 15 minute walk would close your ring'

Oh do fuck off Apple! It's 8.30pm and I'm busy eating crisps on the sofa watching Netflix!

bitheby · 03/05/2021 21:06

You have to move for a minute. If I've been up and down but it hasn't registered it, I just wave my hand about when I get the reminder. That sorts it Grin

Onynx · 03/05/2021 21:08

@Impatientwino exactly😆😆Buuut I've discovered if I click 'strength workout' it adds on time (lifting a wine glass is strength training right?) 😜

TheatricalGiraffe · 03/05/2021 21:11

I find the stand ring the easiest, i've done 12/10 hours today..

You can lower the hours if you're finding it difficult, I usually find getting up, going to get a glass of water (keeps you hydrated) and going back to sit down usually does it (On days where i'm not working cause then i'm just running around for 9 hours)

BillMasheen · 03/05/2021 21:20

You do know you can edit a stand hour or two back in if you think it’s ignoring you.

www.reddit.com/r/AppleWatch/comments/c1h7yp/guide_how_to_manually_add_stand_hours_to_activity/

Though I think it depends which watch and which updates you are running.

Spectrumofhumanlife · 03/05/2021 21:22

It’s not! You only have to stand for a minute every hour. It’s the only one I’m guaranteed to close every day (as I have non sleeping kids plus an overactive bladder at night I usually get 16 hours 😭).

Polkadotties · 03/05/2021 21:25

This is what I do while I’m wfh. If I haven’t moved for an hour and it buzzes at me I get up, walk downstairs, top up my water bottle and walk back upstairs.
BlitheringBlathers · 03/05/2021 21:25

I don't have an Apple Watch and have never heard of stand ring before but this...

Made me laugh Grin

Impatientwino · 03/05/2021 21:39

@Onynx - thanks for the tip will try that! I have done plenty of strength training this weekend WinkWine

mineofuselessinformation · 03/05/2021 21:46

Thank you, @BillMasheen. I've now closed my stand ring, which I know I've definitely done, but now apparently I've done 80 minutes exercise, so I clearly did it wrong! 🤣
I don't feel too badly about it as I did do 31 mins today anyway.

@Impatientwino, I have been known to mutter 'check your own ring' when I get a helpful message... Grin

hennaoj · 03/05/2021 21:52

It's the exercise ring I have trouble with. Even if I walk for an hour, if I don't walk quickly enough it doesn't register it as an hours exercise. Really annoying as I have a dog who likes to poop/wee/sniff and I walk fast otherwise. Even walking for 2 hours can only just close that ring sometimes.

bitheby · 03/05/2021 22:07

It has to be aerobic exercise so heart rate has to be elevated to count. Not sure what the threshold is.

BillMasheen · 04/05/2021 22:57

I think the heartrate threshold is personalised based on the measurements it takes of your resting heartrate. It has to be 30 mins above a certain percentage of your resting rate. (130%?)
