I have Snapchat on my phone but I don’t really use it. Occasionally I get a notification informing me that someone I know is on it, suggesting I add them.
Today I got a notification that someone is on there, and when I went to look, I have a list of suggested people where Snapchat has said they are in my contacts. But none of them are. They are people I sort of know, but not people I have saved in my phone, or have on fb or Instagram. One is the wife of an ex colleague who I met a few times but never had any reason to exchange numbers (the colleague’s number is in my phone, but he is not on Snapchat). Another is a guy I met through a friend at uni, I don’t even think I have the friend’s number anymore.
It’s not a big deal, I’m more curious than anything - how does Snapchat know that I vaguely know these people? Is my number in their phone? (I suppose this is possible but I’d think it quite unlikely). The two examples I’ve given are people I’ve not seen for years, and have no contact with, so even if Snapchat is harvesting all sorts of info from my phone, I don’t know how it’s suggesting these people and not also accidentally coming up with a huge number of other random people I don’t know.
What is this witchcraft?
