Crafty / arty people - what are you making right now?

I love seeing these threads when they come up so thought I would start one!

I have some sort of crafting grasshopper brain so I’m always working on a hundred things at once. Just finished these geometric paper cuts, need to get back to working on this crazily detailed map of London, and around that when I can’t have scalpel blades out because of the kids I’m making a more toned down grey and rainbow version of this blanket I’ve designed so I can take photos for the pattern.

Also have a pile of other crocheted stuff I need to take tutorial photos for, and some tapestry designs to finish. That’s not including the various half finished projects under the bed and sofa 😬

Would love to see what you’re all up to! There’s nothing more satisfying than finishing something that’s taken so much work, and I’m in awe of the people who do stuff I can’t (like drawing / painting, and using a sewing machine for some reason!).

Oooh those are gorgeous!
I'm currently sewing loose covers for our elderly but ridiculously comfy sofa and chairs.

SinkGirl · 03/05/2021 15:29

Ah I love it - nothing like fixing up something old but that you don’t want to get rid of. I wouldn’t have the first clue where to start, that’s so impressive to me. I’ve tried to sew so many times. Good for you!

I started by sewing 'square' things like curtains, sheets and duvet covers, then moved on to cushions. One day it just clicked.
(Although I will confess, I bought the roll of fabric pre Covid, from the local market.)

It’s funny as I can cut perfect straight lines by eye with a scalpel but I can’t cut fabric straight even with a ruler and rotary cutter 😬 Tried to make a quilt once and it was a disaster and my lovely sewing machine is in the loft!

I'm making myself a jumper. And a blanket for dd2.

Aaaand, I have washed and dried, and ironed fabric for a top for myself but that might wait until half term when I'll have longer stretches of time to myself.

I honestly have no idea how anyone paints anything. I tried to learn first lockdown but it was painfully awful.

Love a good waffle stitch blanket (except for the amount of yarn needed!)

If you use oils you just keep painting over your mistakes until it's finished!

IrishCharm · 03/05/2021 16:21

I make items using resin - bookmarks, keyrings, hair clips, dog tags and my favourite coasters!

I'm still knitting the jumper for a knitted dog. I've almost finished an embroidered picture. I want to start making a quilted lens bag.

Spottyphonecase · 03/05/2021 17:21

Gosh where do I start??

Rainbow chronicles blanket - a granny stripe blanket in hand dyed 4ply yarn.
Knitted hat
2 crochet baby blankets
I cut out a peg bag today but I won’t get around to it until the weekend.
Wildflowers embroidery
Knitted socks

Apart from a blanket that won’t be finished for months, a 2nd Worry Eating Monster for a small charity that distributes them to children’s therapists, etc.
Here’s my first, called Fangus: his eyes showed up much better in the flesh, so to speak.

@IrishCharm those coasters are beautiful 😍

Brill idea for a thread @SinkGirl, it's nice to see what others are up to!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 03/05/2021 17:32

I love that still life, @Quincie - I can’t draw for toffee.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/05/2021 17:36

Lovely thread. I'm making face masks for charity. I painted some pebbles for the garden yesterday. Making myself yet another tote bag. And planning a very simple skirt.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/05/2021 17:37

Love that monster!

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 03/05/2021 17:45

I am making a patchwork cushion for my best friend’s baby who is arriving on Wednesday! And then I need to go back to my big lockdown project... a 750 square quilt. I have done about 300 squares and wish I had started something smaller!

SinkGirl · 03/05/2021 18:24

Lovely work everyone! Handmade stuff makes me so happy :)

Love the monster - I made some Rebecca Danger monsters years ago for gifts and they were so adorable, I should make some more.

Going to shoot some crochet videos tomorrow (eek) so I can get my first few patterns up. It’s just so much work that needs to be done and everything takes so long - at least papercutting is relatively quick. I finished the rainbow blanket except the border, but now making a slightly subtler variant that’s bigger and grey with rainbow stripes but it’s taking absolutely forever and I’m so impatient!

@lucysmam Thankyou - I was supposed to sell them but I love them so much I just can’t bring myself to 😂

Those are lovely and they look professional - I tried two part resin but everything had air bubbles in and I gave up.
Quincie · 04/05/2021 08:08

The monsters are a fab idea.
