Is there a rule about where badges go on a brownies sash?

Dd has some brownies badges that she’s earned since October, but as she’d only been attending on zoom, the badges have just been sat in a to pile until now.
She wants me to sew them (or as I’m hoping glue them) today before a session this afternoon.
Totally new to all this so I was wondering if there are any rules and special placings that I have to abide by? I can barely even work out what bit of the sash to sew them onto.
She also has a brownie hoodie. Do badges get sewn to that too?
Thank you!

Don’t think so. When my daughter was in Brownies it was considered a self-expression thing that they could sew them wherever on their hoodies they wanted. Our group didn’t do the sashes though. If you’re choosing to sew on hoodie or sash - I’d go for the sash, so you won’t be having to sew them again when she grows.

Thank you both!

I tried sewing them on this week. Broken needle and lots of cursing later and I glued them. I don't know why they are still designed like this.

I'm a leader. Our girls don't use sashes, just put badges straight on gilet/hoodie or camp blanket. If you do have a sash, usually their Six emblem goes near the top, with space for their Promise badge and Sixer/Seconder pin. If your unit has a name tape, that goes over the shoulder. The rest is up to you! You can just add them as she earns them, or have sections for Interest Badges/Skills Builders (the little hexagonal ones)/Theme Awards (larger shield shapes)/any other special ones your unit does.

My camp blanket now has over 25 years worth of badges on it and is a thing of beauty.

Thanks sock queen. That’s very useful. I love the sound of your camp blanket.
I might hold of sewing them today and double check that dds brownie unit does use sashes. I’d just sort of assumed...

@Notavegan This is why I am hoping gluing them will work! Somebody also told me that washing the badges before sewing on helps soften them and makes them easier to sew.

Ohhh a blanket sounds lovely, I have a sash full of badges but not really something I want to display, but a blanket would have been lovely and I'd probably still be using it today!

Oohh, don't see badges onto the sash if you can avoid it. It requires sweat, blood and tears to get the needle through both sash and badge, and my fingers still bear the scars.

Our unit now allows badges to be sewn onto a camp blanket, which is much easier. They look really beautiful and every one is different. My teenage DD still uses her camp blanket over her duvet on chilly nights.

Experienced Brownie mum and Snowy Owl: sew the badges onto a camp blanket she can take up to Guides with her - so not the brown Brownie blankets GG sells.

I'd DD is insistent on them being on a sash, when the time comes you can sew the whole sash onto a blanket.

Thanks for the tips. I’m liking the blanket idea a lot!

So lesson learned on sash..bin it! It won't stay on her shoulder either so is very annoying.

Safety pin. HTH.

I’ve diligently sewn all DD’s brownies badges on to her sash. Then we ran out of room. We started on a second sash. Now that’s almost full...

She’s in her second hoodie because she outgrew the first. I don’t know the answer. If anyone finds the answer let me know!

BTW I’m pants at sewing so the badges have been sewn on with (lots of) blood, sweet and actual tears.
