Weighted hula hoops

GreenFairyHouse · 02/05/2021 18:36

There are weighted hula hoops shown on Tiktok. They look like loads of clips that clip together and there is a string or rope attached with a ball. Some people make videos and show some progress.

Are they any good?

My problem area has always been my belly and I think I would love to loose some inches of the belly especially in time for summer.

I used to have to wear one of my toddlers pull
Ups around my middle where it rested as I was bruised badly from one but they're brilliant for changing your waist shape.

I lost 4lb in just one week hula hooping every day.

GooodMythicalMorning · 02/05/2021 18:45

yes I love mine, I got a tiny waist and lost 6 stone doing this and calorie counting. Its uncomfortable at first but that soon goes. really must do more of it.

GreenFairyHouse · 02/05/2021 18:58

I lost so much weight last summer from the first lockdown onwards. Then we came into winter and it all stopped. All the motivation I had went. I find it hard to find time midweek when I am in work. This is coming from someone who doesn't sit down to watch TV by the way. I realise ld years ago how much of a time waster that can be. Today is Sunday and I was so busy doing chores around the house. Its only now I am ready to go for a walk and now I feel faint because I forgot to eat all day. I was just so busy. I am upset because life can take over far too easily when I want to focus on myself and exercise and do well for myself.

DD wants one. Does anyone have a link to a good one?

GooodMythicalMorning · 02/05/2021 19:32

No link as mine is so old, but dont get the bumpy ones get a smooth one.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 02/05/2021 22:03

Ooo live this idea!
Are they tricky to use?

HerRoyalNotness · 02/05/2021 22:05

I bought one and can’t actually hula hoop! Grin. No idea how to train myself to be able to, it’s hanging in the garage

Hungryhippos123 · 02/05/2021 22:10

Following as interested in these!

AbsentmindedWoman · 02/05/2021 22:11

Legit thought this thread was about the crisps/ snack Hula Hoops and clicked on it intrigued to see what new weighted ones were Grin

As you were...

I went to a hula hoop class, the weighted bumpy hoops are much much easier to keep up than the kids style plastic ones. First week was so sore! Only took a couple of weeks to get better at keeping it up. I got bored of the class after about 6 weeks so no idea about the changing shape side.

FizzyPink · 02/05/2021 22:12

Me too! I’ve lost 10lbs recently and am a size 8 but with a belly I’d love to lose!
This seems more fun than an exercises Grin

Cocolapew · 02/05/2021 22:13

I have a proper weighted hula hoop and I've already noticed a difference in my belly. DD can't do it she's covered in bruises, but I have plenty of padding to protect me. She's looking to get the clip ones.

FizzyPink · 02/05/2021 22:15

Does anyone have one they recommend? Amazon reviews seem very mixed

RedHotChiliChips · 02/05/2021 22:35

I have had a weighted hoop for eight years and have lost 10 inches off my waist - through going low carb Grin

Tbh, I have no idea if it helps with losing belly fat but it does get your heart rate up when you get going. I go through long periods of not hooping but right now I hoop twice a week at about 8-10 minutes as a warm up before lifting weights. I just put the telly on and start hooping, time flies in a flash.

At first you most likely will struggle, especially when trying to hoop anti-clockwise (if you are right handed). You just need to keep lifting the hoop up and keep trying, you will get better pretty quickly. And you will need to learn to hoop on both directions.

Your midriff will also be covered in bruises. Do not start hooping a week before your beach holiday! And your middle will ache like you never ached before. But it does go away and you won't experience the bruises again.

My hoop is from Powerhoop. But as it is 8 years old, I can't recommend my one, the hoops seem to have evolve quite a bit since I bought mine.

It took my fat arse a few seconds to click what you were on about. I thought about crisps Blush.

Same here!

Iceland do a kind of chip/hula hoop hybrid.
I think that's what you're looking for.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 03/05/2021 19:23

Really want one!
Please recommend me a make????

OnlyBejoking · 03/05/2021 19:37

I used to do hula dance and wouldn't recommend one of the weighted ones as they really bruise. I have a big, heavy one for waist hooping. You can order them from juggling type shops. You get the benefits without the pain and bruises

Lyricallie · 03/05/2021 19:39

I got really bad bruises from mine, I was only doing it for about 20-30 minutes so be careful with that. There is some good YouTube videos to follow along with it. I think I got mine from Amazon, however it was a good could of years ago.

HavelockVetinari · 03/05/2021 19:46

Sorry folks, you cannot target where to lose fat from - it's physically impossible. You can tighten muscles, but it won't redistribute fat, where you store it is genetic sadly.

That said, I bet hula-hooping is great for toning your core muscles which can lead to inch loss.

SappysCurry · 03/05/2021 19:51

I the salt and vinegar ones 🐷

Ohcrapbags · 03/05/2021 19:54

I genuinely though this was a thread about the crisps.

THIS is why I'm obese.

Nitgel · 03/05/2021 19:55

I bought one from argos but it's too big and wide for me to use in my lounge 😄

Butternutsqoosh · 03/05/2021 19:55

@HavelockVetinari correct you cannot target where to lose fat from, however hula hooping will burn calories and so you will lose body fat from all over but it may become more noticeable on your tummy as you build the muscles and lose the fat, I used to have one and keep thinking I should get another one!
