Travel Insurance

After a challenging year, we're desperate to take our booked holiday. It's a UK cottage.

However, partner's father has been diagnosed with a life-limiting condition (motor neurone disease). He hasn't been diagnosed as 'end-of-life' but of course the pace of his deterioration is not known.

Does anyone have recommendations as to what travel insurance would cover cancellation if his father rapidly deteriorates near the time of our holiday? We would, of course, want to be around if that such happen. Also, we don't live together and are not married so would I and my children be covered under the insurance too?

Whilst quotes seem to ask for details of our pre-existing cover, they don't for pre-existing conditions of a close relative.

I think you are best checking the terms and conditions of any insurance policy. I am fairly certain in the case of a death of a close relative you could cancel and get a refund, but not sure about cancelling due to illness deteriorating. If you were to get insurance,I would give the lead person as your partner. We have used Staysure for travel insurance, you could do a dummy booking to see what is covered.

I’m sorry this sounds very tough for you all.

I think you’re likely to find it difficult and/or expensive to secure a policy given the pre existing condition. But hopefully someone more knowledgeable will come along.

Wishing you all the best

Thanks for the replies. That's a good point re making my partner the lead.
