As a teenager I like listening to a certain rock band.
Just found their album on iTunes, downloaded and listened.
I was shocked. One of the songs - sung by grown men - ' she's a 13 yr tease , with bleach blonde hair. Let me eat your cookies , let me see your cookies '
Sat in the bath gob smacked. When I was 15 , this never made me question.

Has anyone else come across something that as a younger person it never crossed your mind but now it's a wtf moment

Saved by the Bell. How many times did they dress 16 year old Kelly in a bathing suit? Creepy.

Not forgetting the adult audience screaming excitedly at 15/16 year old Slater.

Cocolapew · 02/05/2021 16:14

Led Zeppelin's House of the Holy album has naked children on the cover.
Tennents lager cans used to have photos of women on the side of the tin
@BlueCowWonders me and my friends were 17/18 when the engagement was announced, and found it creepy. People joked that he only married someone so young because there were no aristocratic virgins his own age. And it was reported in the papers that she was examined to prove her virginity and underwent fertility tests before the wedding. I remember my dad saying that poor girl is just a brood mare.
Her own father said proudly that his daughter was a virgin Hmm

SusannahSophia · 02/05/2021 17:36

I thought The Summer of 69 was about oral sex? 🤷🏻‍♀️

24GinDrinkingOnceTheKidsInBed · 02/05/2021 17:41

The way I lost my virginity.

I thought it was normal to need ‘convincing’.. now I’m 24 and realise actually what happened was very wrong, coercive and manipulative. It’s something that will haunt me for life and makes me cringe when I think about it.

mrsnw · 02/05/2021 17:42

The song lady willpower. I listened to it loads growing up. I listen to it now and think, oh dear. A man trying to persuade a woman to have sex with him and if she doesn't he will leave her. Nice!!

DagenhamRoundhouse · 02/05/2021 17:43

What about the film 'Indecent Proposal' ? Redford should have known better.

Maggiesfarm · 02/05/2021 17:45

:-) What then is a six string? Hee hee.

Not quite on point, because I had never heard it until I was old enough to be horrified by it (Yank here - Cliff Richard never made it in America) but I find the song Living Doll deeply offensive. I know it's many decades old, and he turns out not to be pedophile, but it's literally objectifying his girlfriend. Plus the pedo overtones of actual dolls mostly being representations of babies and little girl. Why was effectively saying "my girlfriend is shaped like a female human but has no brain or agency of her own" considered a sweet compliment?

Seymour5 · 02/05/2021 17:48

Gollies. 'Look for the golly on the jar' was a popular slogan for years, til most of us grasped why it was wrong. Not all if us though. 😥

thinkIamdone · 02/05/2021 17:49

The film Pretty Woman. About a man blase about using a woman's body and paying for it. The love story is just a smokescreen.

Can't get over how people still thinks it is a wonderful feelgood film.

Seymour5 · 02/05/2021 17:49

Not all of us.

Gwenhwyfar · 02/05/2021 17:51

@AbsolutelyPatsy

yes i really dont like that part of Big
I don't even remember it. Was it cut out of some versions? I just remember him thinking it was a play date and jumping on the bed or something.
NeilBuchananisBanksy · 02/05/2021 17:51

Seaworld. It's so sad.

Bookloverjay · 02/05/2021 17:54

I can't watch Dirty Dancing. Patrick swayze's character seems like he's in his late 30's and baby Hmm is like 16?
Rita Sue and Bob too is kinda cringy now

TesticleMeElmo · 02/05/2021 17:54

What makes me cringe now? The majority of the last 30 years to be honest Confused

Plus he's quite happy to "lock her in a trunk"
TesticleMeElmo · 02/05/2021 17:55

Ah sorry, what makes me uncomfortable... my answer is still the same Grin

SunsetBeetch · 02/05/2021 17:55

@GintyMcGinty

I will add John Hughes films like Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, Breakfast Club.

Full of sexisms, racism, homophobia with sexual assault and rape as punchlines and achievements.

I'm so glad somebody else sees this. They are foul.
Gwenhwyfar · 02/05/2021 17:56

@AMillionMilesAway

When I was Year 9 (so around 13/14) I had a friend at school who had a boyfriend who was around 25. He used to pick her up from school and they were definitely having sex- she told me. We we all jealous. Now, as a fully grown adult, I am pretty horrified none of the teachers seemed to care.
From the way you've used Year 9 rather than third year, you sound younger than me, but when this happened at my school (there was a group of girls who had adult boyfriends), the rest of us did think it was awful. I'd blame the parents more than the teachers though because some of them knew it was happening or at least didn't know what their children were doing.
masterblaster · 02/05/2021 17:57

Black face.
Films that fetishise war.

@drinkingwineoutofamug

Bit like Rita , sue and Bob too. Not questioned at the time but now ! I've looked up this band back on YouTube and looked at comments for this song. Not one single person has pulled them up on it. I know it's 20 odd years ago but blimey
Remember this film, hilarious as it was I didn't think about the stuff Bob got up to which was so wrong. This guy popped up again on my screen as Fairbanks in Line of Duty. Was racking my brain to remember where I'd seen him. Also, if anyone remembers the storyline in Brookside, where Tracey Corkhill had an affair with her teacher, Mr Montague. At my school a few days later, there was grafitti on the girl's toilets saying 'Tracey gave her swiss roll to Monty'. I knew what it meant but now I look back and cringe!
Roxy69 · 02/05/2021 17:58

Tall men with short partners, very creepy. Hearing the phrase 'sweet sixteen' yuk.

BeetrootPicklePlease · 02/05/2021 17:58

I have a photo somewhere of 14 year old me with Rolf Harris - with his arm around me

Gwenhwyfar · 02/05/2021 17:59

@Gingefringe

Pretty Woman - it's ok to be a prostitute to bag a milliionaire.
It's a Cinderella-type fairy tale though isn't it? It's not supposed to be serious career advice. I gather the first ending was a sad one and it was changed.
