'Just saying'

I can't bear it! I keep seeing this - a sentence, usually with some completely obvious suggestion, followed by 'just saying'.

Similarly, putting no? at the end of a sentence makes me want to punch myself in the face.

I'll also give a special mention to any sentence mentioning hubby, hollibobs, refering to yourself as mumma, using a plural as a singular - a red lip etc., did you mean to be so rude and referring to yourself as 'a bit mad but I'm fun'.

And relax ...

@midsomermurderess

'Gentle reminder' is right up there with 'polite notice'.
A bloke I used to work with emailed an office of 120 people a “genital reminder” once. Bless him. He had a few clangers in his time.

Beginning sentences - written or spoken - with 'So'....
Also very overused now.

I used to get annoyed by " so I turned round and said " but have noticed this has declined, or fallen out of fashion.

There was also a phase of "Really ?" said in a very emphatic way. I don't mind this one. Can be quite funny trying to predict when it will occur, or how often you may hear it on a work day.

I am guilty of using "I know right ?", a habit I have picked up from my children. DD shortens it and just says " right ?".

I believe these are just fashions and part of culture. Just "suck it up" , as they say.

I have seen a lot of this recently on SM, "Let that sink in." Or worse, "Let. That. Sink. In."

I can read and I understood what you typed. I can also appreciate the gravity of the situation you described. I am not an idiot.

This one is beyond twee - 'cheeky' as in 'a cheeky little glass of wine" ...

GreyhoundG1rl · 02/05/2021 20:28

There's a trend lately to use "Are you okay?" as an insult when no other argument presents itself. So pa and stupid.

it's when someone is sarcastic then says "NOT!" afterwards. We are british we understand sarcasm you don't need to say not afterwards.
