'Just saying'

OrchidLass · 01/05/2021 08:23

I can't bear it! I keep seeing this - a sentence, usually with some completely obvious suggestion, followed by 'just saying'.

Similarly, putting no? at the end of a sentence makes me want to punch myself in the face.

I'll also give a special mention to any sentence mentioning hubby, hollibobs, refering to yourself as mumma, using a plural as a singular - a red lip etc., did you mean to be so rude and referring to yourself as 'a bit mad but I'm fun'.

And relax ...

OP posts:
MotherOfGodWeeFella · 01/05/2021 11:35

The thing I can't stand is when a poster suggests a, usually aggressive, course of action to the OP and ends their post with, "But then I am a hard hearted bitch" or some such. What they've suggested is usually ridiculously over the top and probably a million miles away from what they actually would do.

whenthebellsring · 01/05/2021 11:37

@OrchidLass That's the best way to go about these things tbh. I was being lighthearted too.

Just saying Grin

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 01/05/2021 12:04

To 'reach out' to someone, meaning to get in touch makes me Confused
Always makes me think of Kate Bush in her Wuthering Heights video.

PhilCornwall1 · 01/05/2021 12:43

One that gets me is "signposting" someone to something.

My line manager once asked me to signpost him (just ask where it is!!!) to the relevant documents and some in the team have now started using the phrase, so I now just send them this...

'Just saying'
petalblossom · 01/05/2021 15:28

It's like saying 'just putting that out there'. Clearly a challenge or criticism disguised as an inoffensive comment

OppsUpsSide · 01/05/2021 16:58
  • @OppsUpsSide I was referring to “it is what it is.” Sorry I wasn’t clear.*

Huh?

BetterKateThanNever · 01/05/2021 18:16

I feel the same as people starting a sentence with 'At the end of the day'. Usually brainless gobby shites who have a tattoo/wall decal of the phrase 'It is what it is' or 'Live, Laugh, Love.

iklboo · 01/05/2021 18:42

The 🤷‍♀️ end multiple use of 😂😂😂😂😂 makes me quite murderous. Usually used by people who either have no concept that people do things differently to them or have difficulties with comprehending their opinion isn't the only valid one.

iklboo · 01/05/2021 18:43

And, not end.

PandaLady · 01/05/2021 19:01

I've been out of the professional wank-world of work for two years and am delighted to hear new spunk-tastic phrases abound such as "let's square the circle".

Please keep sharing, I need cheering up.

Koolandorthegang · 01/05/2021 19:17

@PandaLady oh you’ve really thrown me a curve ball there! Let’s touch base tomorrow and discuss it in the round.

Do you want to kill me yet? Grin

Are touching base at "close of play" tomorrow?

Koolandorthegang · 01/05/2021 19:22

@PhilCornwall1 oh yes at close of play we shall brainstorm and really come up with some great synergies. I’d love to explore some ways that we can all do our part to pay it forward going forward.

Ugh, I need a shower after that

WhyArePiratesCalledPirates · 01/05/2021 19:25

For me it's "gifted". What's wrong with given?
Sounds wanky and really irritates me!

Eyesofdisarray · 01/05/2021 19:31

Hate 'it is what it is'
'Take it on board'
Myself used as above; a colleague uses this all the time. Grrrr
But worst if all. The very absolute worst is.....
"This too shall pass"
Made me nauseous just typing it 🤢

purrswhileheeats · 01/05/2021 19:33

Don't forget 'boom' along with hash tags.

We get it, you got your covid jab.

#fuckoff

sunnysidegold · 01/05/2021 19:40

I find that people who use "just saying" are the same kind of dickhead who will start a sentence with "no offence, but..." And then go on to say something completely offensive.

PandaLady · 01/05/2021 19:55

Oooh @Koolandorthegang let's discuss this in the round and then square a circle or would that be inappropriate?

I might just pay it forward like @PhilCornwall1 suggests, after all we all have our part to play.

PandaLady · 01/05/2021 19:59

Touching base always makes me think of the euphemism for the turtle-head poop phrase 'touching cloth'.

Koolandorthegang · 01/05/2021 20:00

@PandaLady @PhilCornwall1 good chat guys, good chat

NakedBanana · 01/05/2021 20:15

I know right?

Ahhhhhhhhj Drives. Me. Mad!

Don't know why!

Milkshake7489 · 01/05/2021 21:03

For me it's 'rant over'. I know your rant is over because your post is finished!

It's such a petty thing but it makes me unreasonably annoyed Grin.

I did catch myself referring to myself as 'mumma' to my baby the other day though.

Cherrysoup · 01/05/2021 21:17

May I add ‘Innit?’ at the end of each sentence? It drives me crazy, as does ‘Does that make sense?’ said 6 times in quick succession by a colleague the other day. Once is enough.

SeaTurtles92 · 01/05/2021 21:20

@Sparklingbrook

I don't get the hate for the word 'moist'. It's vitally important when it comes to cake isn't it?
Vitally important for most things, just saying.
Stichintime · 01/05/2021 21:25

I hate 'does that make sense' after every comment. I just want to shout 'NO!' everytime. Also hate 'comfort break' during any training or conference. Its suggesting people are so stupid they need to be told what a break is for.
