'Just saying'

OrchidLass · 01/05/2021 08:23

I can't bear it! I keep seeing this - a sentence, usually with some completely obvious suggestion, followed by 'just saying'.

Similarly, putting no? at the end of a sentence makes me want to punch myself in the face.

I'll also give a special mention to any sentence mentioning hubby, hollibobs, refering to yourself as mumma, using a plural as a singular - a red lip etc., did you mean to be so rude and referring to yourself as 'a bit mad but I'm fun'.

And relax ...

I can't abide being told to 'think' things.

Think, giant alligators 🐊

I know it does me no harm, but I hate it!

iklboo · 01/05/2021 22:32

Former boss - Hence because. Arghhhhh.

ViciousJackdaw · 01/05/2021 23:32

I can't stand 'educate yourself'. Especially when said to someone who is asking a question and therefore trying to gain knowledge.

Also finishing a rant with 'End Of.' or 'Fact'.

FunnyWonder · 02/05/2021 00:11

Sourced ...
Good news, you will be relieved to know I have sourced a family sized pack of bog rolls.
See, I think you bought them. Maybe you stole them. But you didn't fucking source them like some sort of intrepid explorer.

ilovesooty · 02/05/2021 00:16

No, or even worse, non at the end of a sentence is just affected.

ilovesooty · 02/05/2021 00:18

Oh, and I won't care if I never see the word woke again.

PhilCornwall1 · 02/05/2021 03:11
@PhilCornwall1 oh yes at close of play we shall brainstorm and really come up with some great synergies. I’d love to explore some ways that we can all do our part to pay it forward going forward.

Ugh, I need a shower after that
🤣🤣

@OppsUpsSide

The one I hate most is

‘Fixed it for you’

God, this. Your opinion has no validity because it doesn't jibe with mine, so I've rewritten your post as the gospel according to ME. Arrogant as bedamned.

I know it does me no harm, but I hate it!

Especially when they go on to describe the actual thing! Poster 1: I'm going on holiday next week - think Dubai Poster 2: Ooh, where exactly? Poster 1: Err, Dubai. I've just said... 😂
Howyoudoingirl · 02/05/2021 03:24

Can I offer up 'Rant over.' My otherwise lovely Bil has started putting this at the end of his Face ache posts. I'm thinking of staging an intervention to address the behavior.

Howyoudoingirl · 02/05/2021 03:26

Ah I see Milkshake beat me to it.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 02/05/2021 06:08

Every sodding person/thing being ‘amazing’.

Aliens landing in my back garden would be amazing, ditto if I ever cleaned my oven more than once in a blue moon. (Where is the lazy baggage emoji?)

confusedofengland · 02/05/2021 07:01

One thing that really annoys me is when people use because & then a noun straight afterwards, omitting a totally necessary part of the sentence e.g. 'because Friday'. Rather than saying 'because it is Friday'. This really grates on me. Also when people just use 'This' or 'Totally this'll as a whole sentence, meaning 'I agree with this'.

I do realise I'm probably alone in finding this annoying though BlushGrin

confusedofengland · 02/05/2021 07:03

Noticed a typo in my last post. I'm not quite sure where the 'll' crept in after 'Totally this' Hmm

Wheesplat · 02/05/2021 07:10

My old workplace used to piss me off. In presentations, everything easy was described as being “like teaching your granny to suck an egg”. They didn’t like me asking how you suck an egg, or why, as I have never done it. Blow an egg, yep done that, also not easy.

I hate this too. It's like if you don't agree with them you have to somehow be 'educated'. You can be just as educated as someone else but still have a different opinion!
springnamechange · 02/05/2021 07:51

Gentle reminder Angry

RustySpringboard · 02/05/2021 07:55

“Reach out” makes me cringe. It always makes me think of the Four Tops when I see/hear it.
Another one that irritates - finishing sentences with ‘...and that’. As in ‘I’m just going round to see Fred and that’ . I always want to reply ‘and that what?’.
As for ‘awesome’.......🤮

PhilCornwall1 · 02/05/2021 08:26

We have on person at work who puts in a random "yeah" in sentences when explaining something.

"What I think we need to do is, yeah, what we'll do is...."

Or if asked what they've been doing you'll get "so today, yeah....".

It's a weird one and starting to feel like I'm having my fingernails slowly pulled out.

OrchidLass · 02/05/2021 08:50

My friend (who I love dearly) has a habit of doing this on FB. It's become more frequent so I think I may be joining you in staging an intervention.

'Gentle reminder' is right up there with 'polite notice'.

OrchidLass · 02/05/2021 10:16

I'm no fan of 'you've got this!' either.

Ugh, yes. "Just a gentle reminder that..." followed by some aggressive, preachy bullshit.
notagainmummy · 02/05/2021 10:37

It's passive aggressive, which is why it irritates us

FlattestWhite · 02/05/2021 11:34

And then there are phrases that at first may have seemed like an interesting way to say something, but have become so overused now - like the repetition of no or yes, followed by the full sentence.

No. No, you haven't.

Yes. Yes, they are.

You see it everywhere now, and it's lost the impact it probably had to start with, that surprise 'no' or whatever, and then softening it a bit with the rest of the sentence. It might have been interesting the first few times, but just seems very overused now, sounds like people thinking they are writing a funny lifestyle column or editorial or something.
