Creative ideas for a hide away desk?

Hi all

DH and I have both been working from home for over a year. I'm part time and he's full time. Towards the beginning we bought a desk and I bought home my desktop equipment (monitors, docking station, keyboard), and since then we have taken turn to use the desk whilst the other works elsewhere on their laptop. Now, like many others, it looks like we'll never go back full time to the office, and in my case in particular I'll be at home far more than I'm in the office.

Due to the nature of DH's role he has more need of additional monitors, whilst for me I can make do with the laptop screen. However it's still sub-optimal for me, and obviously ergonomically speaking it's better to have a proper desk set up with a proper monitor.

Problem is we don't have room for a second desk. And even if we did make room for one, we wouldn't want it to be constantly set up as a desk - we want something that we can set a monitor on but that we can hide away outside of work hours, as it will be in a family room rather than an office.

I know there are some pieces of furniture you can buy that fold out into a desk and then fold away into a sideboard or similar, but they all seem really pricey, and I'm sure there are some creative people out there who have come up with cheap and effective alternatives.

Any ideas?

We got some fold down hinges for Ds room then used plywood to make a fold down desk. I bought a roll of adhesive that looks like white oak and covered the whole plywood piece before screwing it into the hinges.
When open its the size of a small computer desk, when folded down it's hardly noticeable.
The hinges and adhesive roll both from b&q and the plywood was a spare piece in the shed. So he got a desk that takes no space for under £30

@Sh05 is there any way you could post a photo of that please? Sounds great!

I'd look on Ebay for a 2nd hand bureau bookcase or desk. Might get it cheaply. (Not Ercol mind you)

What about a folding camper table? You could take it out on day trips too.

Thanks for the suggestions! I should have been clearer that I'm looking for a solution that doesn't require me to set up the monitors and other equipment each time. So something that can be hidden away but still allows us to leave the equipment more or less set up. A bureau might be the way forwards...

A friend has one of these in the corner of her spare bedroom.
