Which is your favourite fruit pie?

Fruit pie has been requested for lunch tomorrow. My favourite (and the only one I know how to make) is apple but, out of principle, I'm never making DH another apple pie.

What's your favourite fruit pie?

I'd forg

Frownette · 30/04/2021 00:01

Sorry I had to get up to check on food. I meant I'd forgotten how nice gooseberry was but my favourite is cherry

JackieTheFart · 30/04/2021 00:02

Crumble is too unhealthy?! What an idiot.

Tell him to make his own pie and make a crumble for yourself. I like apple and blackberry the best - I even keep tinned fruit about in case I have the urge!

It depends what format it is:

Crust pastry:cherry or gooseberry
Crumble:apple, blackberries etc
Baked sponge:apple

Frownette · 30/04/2021 00:09

Well that's my view on it anyway

Maggiesfarm · 30/04/2021 00:11

Apple and blackberry.

Raspberry.

LadyCluck · 30/04/2021 00:14

Apple

TheFormidableMrsC · 30/04/2021 00:35

Cherry

BackforGood · 30/04/2021 00:36

Rhubarb

but I did used to love the cherry pie filling you got in a tin. Sadly, haven't been able to find any for years.

FrankensteinIsTheMonster · 30/04/2021 00:37

Bilberry. With a bottom crust so it can go all purple and soggily delicious. We used to go picking them on the moor every year and freeze ice-cream-tubfulls.

AdaColeman · 30/04/2021 01:03

Apricot tart or lemon tart.

But if you're being strict about 'pie' then rhubarb is right in season now!

Seafog · 30/04/2021 02:39

Ginger peach

ThiagoSilvasToe · 30/04/2021 03:06

Peach!

newtb · 30/04/2021 03:13

Gooseberry with late dm's pastry.

Blackcurrant

BoomBoomsCousin · 30/04/2021 03:26

A very solid reason to never make your favourite pie again! Grin

Two year frozen rhubarb will probably be okay in a pie, though you might want to do it as a mix in case it's lost some flavour. Maybe raspberries or blueberries?

RebelByLight · 30/04/2021 06:21

Grin I do make it for the Dc and me, just when DH isn't around. Unfortunately that means I haven't had any pie for over a year Shock

I think pie should be a pie or a crumble. DH thinks a pie should be a pastry base, with the fruit in it and then a mixture of milk/cream/eggs/cornflour poured over it.

WTAF?Shock that is not pie.

mogloveseggs · 30/04/2021 07:07

@TheYearOfSmallThings

Oh it's a fraochán.

Hard to find enough to make a pie!

I've never heard them called that before! Very popular in my part of lancashire.

That sounds more like a fruit tart.

Hilarious that he thinks that's more healthy than a crumble!

Kiki275 · 30/04/2021 07:29

@TheYearOfSmallThings it depends where you're from what they're called.
We pick whimberries up on the moors and often it's a family annual event to go out collecting, taking a picnic etc and returning home looking like you've been dragged through a hedge.x

Cowbells · 30/04/2021 07:31

Apple obviously. Grin But apart from that, DH makes a pear pie with chocolate pastry which is great and he recently made a heavenly one which was apricots, almonds and cardamom.

I like the sound of blueberry pie.

So did we!
GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 30/04/2021 07:54

Cherry, though I love a good apple, too.
Ordinary shortcrust pastry, 3 tins of Asda black cherries, drained, a bit of the juice thickened with cornflour.

Mind you a cherry clafoutis (Asda tins again) is possibly even yummier and less of a faff.

Well, clearly your dh is wrong.

I mean, his pudding sounds nice enough and I'd absolutely be up for being served a piece of that Wink
BUT
A pie is clearly pastry on the bottom, sides and top and then fruit (or meat and gravy if that's your bag) in the middle.

M0rT · 30/04/2021 13:47

Your DH likes flan and you like crumble?
So when your DH bakes he can make flan and when you bake you can make crumble.
I have solved your dilemmaHalo
Rhubarb and plum is good in a crumble with oats as part of of the crumble topping.
