How can I relieve front of neck pain?

It's the front left of my neck. It suddenly flares up now and then. Doctor suggested Ibuleve which does help but it stinks! And it's really bothering me. Just wondering if anybody else gets this pain and if there are any other things I could do. It's like a bruise-y ache but a really localised one that ironically I can't locate!

Is it definitely not anxiety induced? I used to get a 'lump in the throat' feeling which lasted a few days and baffled me, but then I read that others had it on here when anxious and I realised that was what it was. A very physical pain.

Perhaps not if the Ibuleve works on it actually...

That's funny you say that @Onceuponamidnight - I have suffered with the globus thing before. Definitely anxiety. But this isn't that, no lump sensation just discomfort in one area, the left front side. It's driving me insane!

Yes that's the name of it! That sounds really frustrating. Hope someone else can help!

Things can work because you think they work! Which doesn't mean they aren't working. But the brain is good at fooling us.

OP, pain exists to tell us something. You are obviously uncomfortable about not understanding what is telling you. I think you are being reasonable to want to know why you have pain. It may be almost nothing. Or a lot of things. But you want to know. Don't you? So push for an explanation.

What is your posture like? Do you slump a lot?

I had physio years go and was quite shocked when she stood me in front of a mirror and told me to stand up straight and one of my shoulders was held a lot lower than the other!!

TheMagicFarawaySea · 29/04/2021 21:02

@Chatanooga1 thank you, I'll take a look at this. My posture is terrible and I have two kids under 5 so I'm constantly carrying heavy weights on my left hip!

@Moondust001 yes you're right. I have pushed with the doctor but they've been pretty dismissive. Said to call back if it doesn't go away after a few weeks of ibuleve and they'll do more bloods to check there's no infection.
