Does anyone have wooden plantation style shutters and would they recommend?

I was informed that these were popular at the moment, so looking for opinions. I have to admit they do look smart from the outside. This will be for a new build property as that might make a difference. How easy are they to clean? Do you have curtains as well? Any companies to recommend or avoid. Thanks

I've had them at my last two houses. No curtains, just the shutters. They are not difficult to clean, you just wipe them. We bought from

Just had ours fitted. Very, very happy with them. They just need a wipe with a soft cloth to clean. I like the way I can choose how they are set.

We have large bay windows so went for large 89mm louvres but a new build possibly having smaller windows go go for smaller louvres.

We don't have curtains as not a lot of light around us to get through.

You'd need to give a rough idea of your whereabouts to get sensible recommendations. Although, I did choose to stay away from Hilary's.....

Out of interest, do the rooms with shutters feel echoey? I'm always amazed at how echoey my house is when curtains are taken down, they absorb so much noise! Wondered if the shutters work in the same way?

Thank you for feedback. EmmaStone interesting question. I am interested in that too as I am going for wood floors. If location is important for recommendation I am Scotland Central belt.

I have plantation shutters and wooden floors and I dont notice any echo.

I love my shutters, they do collect a bit of dust but its nothing that a wipe down doesnt sort.

Mine aren't wood though - they're some form of wood/plastic hybrid material and they were made in China and imported. Bought through and fitted by a local firm to me in the West Midlands (I only know this as installation was held up due to Covid)

Ours were here when we moved in and I wouldn’t choose to replace them. They’re dust magnets. We’ve also got them on quite large windows (including a patio door) and they’re just a pain in the arse to be honest.

I do have curtains as well, it felt a bit too hard without them but that’s personal taste I think.

I have wooden floors and plantation shutters. No echo unless no furniture in the room. I love my shutters. It seems much clearer round the window. We have ours closed with the slats open. If you go away you can partially close the slats so no one can see in. Often I pull the shutters wide open and that lets in loads of light.

I think it depends how wide your window is. We have a very wide window and they are not good

LostArcher · 29/04/2021 18:58

Our windows are 2m and they are great. I think wider than that and they might not be so good.

I love the look of shutters, super easy to clean too. I used a company called ShutterLab. Highly recommended!
