Michael Collins, the last of the Apollo 11 astronauts passed away yesterday at the age of 90.

He was the pilot of this mission and was briefly the most isolated man in the Solar System as he orbited the moon while Aldrin and Armstrong were on the moon.

It is a tragedy that he did not live to see the next stage in lunar exploration but let's see what Artemis has in store.

Sad news. I've often wondered what it must have been like for him, orbiting the moon on his own.

Buzz Aldrin is still alive, so there's man left from the Apollo 11 mission. I'm really hoping we can go to Florida next year so we can go to Kennedy again.

I always felt a bit sorry for him... I wonder if he’d have liked to have walked on the moon, too!

Anyway, he’s still a great space pioneer. RIP Mr Collins.

Interesting piece on the Today programme about him. He didn’t like the Loneliest Man In Space moniker at all. He said he saw everyone involved in space missions as daisies in a chain, all as equally important as each other because if one failed, it all failed, no matter where in the chain they were.

I feel bad that out of all the Apollo 11 astronauts he is the one who is going to be forgotten, even though his role was as critical as Armstrong and Aldrin.
