Modern way to listen to music and books

I feel a little silly asking but I’m behind the times....how does everyone access music and audio books these days? I feel I need something to keep me going when walking and doing housework so thought these would be good. I’d also like for my 6yr old (they currently love the Julia Donaldson CDs and have a cd player but wondered if any easier or more modern options). I have Amazon prime, an Alexa and an iPhone but no other media or devices. What’s the best option for me? TIA

I have the Spotify app, I pay a tenner a month for no ads but you can have it for free with them. You can make your own playlists and save all your favourite music. There’s audible for audio books but I don’t use it so I don’t know what it’s like

You already pay for Amazon prime so you can access Amazon music which has most things. Just say 'Alexa play Take That playlist' or name an album etc and it will play. Or you can listen using your phone with or without headphones.

Free Spotify for music or Amazon prime. I'm also a member of my local library and they have an app where you can 'borrow' audio books - I listen to them on my phone at night or at the gym.

The library app (Borrow Box) is free btw.

I use the free version of Spotify.

I use Audible ( When offered a free month 7.99 otherwise) you can download the books so you don't have to have an internet connection. I have an old Android so your I phone would be fine to listen on.

Coffeeandcake36 · 27/04/2021 18:18

I didn't know about the library app!! Would this work on an android?

cinders15 · 27/04/2021 18:24

I love audible!

fairydustandpixies · 27/04/2021 18:27

@coffee yes the app works on android, even ones as old as my museum piece! You need a pin number from your library, I assume they're still not open but they're bound to have a website or phone your local council?

fairydustandpixies · 27/04/2021 18:29

Oh and like audible you can download so you can listen without internet connection. Same with the books too. It's been a lifeline for me this past year!

Coffeeandcake36 · 27/04/2021 18:39

thank you fairydustandpixies I love listening to audiobooks while doing housework or on the way back from the school run so I will look into that Smile

Amazon Prime has podcasts too. BBC Sounds app is free and great for music and podcasts, live or on catch up.

mangoMelon · 27/04/2021 19:53

Thank you for the info. I’ll check out the library as free is good. I’ll start using Amazon music too thanks if included in prime - only recently got for free delivery. I just think listening to books or something will keep me focused when exercising and doing housework as I’m very unmotivated right now!
