Any pescatarians on MN? Is it difficult to maintain the diet? Really want to become one but also occasionally love a roast.

Any input greatly appreciated.

I love fish and eggs so I would be happy to try it as I eat fish about 4 times a week anyway .
But I know what you mean about a roast but you should give it a go for I month .
See how it goes .

DS1 is pescetarian and has been for about 8 years I think. Its not difficult at all imo. When we have a roast he either has Linda McCartney mozzarella or pulled pork burger. Or veggie sausages. But as well as being pescetarian he is also fussy!

What's your motivation for the change? If it's your health then living mostly a pescatarian diet with an occasional roast is fine. If it's about animal wellbeing then focusing more on that will help you to enjoy the majority of the meal that's not meat and explore alternatives. Personally I love a nut roast.

Surely you just stop eating meat and choose fish instead? If you want a roast, either have fish (the Lidl 3 fish roast is very nice) or quorn or a nut roast if you prefer.

However, there are so many issues with fishing as well as meat and dairy production that it would probably be better for welfare and environmental reasons if people in general cut down on all of these so demand was lower, which would allow production to happen in a more sustainable manner.

It doesn't have to be all or nothing and no-one's forced to label themselves or stick 100% to any particular diet if they're not actively avoiding meat for moral reasons.

I'm not vegetarian or pescatarian but I eat very little meat, mostly because I've really gone off it and also that I prefer fish and seafood and many common vegetarian options, eg anything spinach and ricotta, mezze type stuff and there's a vegetarian Indian street food bar in my city that I would go several times a week if I could be arsed travelling there.

I have been pescatarian for thirty plus years. I don’t find it difficult at all but I can’t really remember eating meat and it doesn’t occur to me to eat it any more.

I find the best part of a roast is all the veg and trimmings anyway and love a nut roast or quorn joint.
