Your best 40th birthday present

It's mine soon and I'm being asked what I want and I just don't know! Since Covid it's been really difficult imagining what real life is going to be like when it's all over. It's making it harder to imagine what I'll value forever. For my 30th I got some hand made bespoke diamond earrings (cost c.£150) so something around that value would be great. And I like it to be an item rather than experience (have spa break and afternoon tea still to book from last birthday!) All thoughts very welcome.

I got £70 in cash which I saved, I'm so rock n roll 🤣

I got some clothes from DH, gift vouchers, flowers, nothing particularly milestone-y like your earrings but I wouldn't know what to choose if someone had asked because I don't wear jewellery really.

Sorry, that wasn't much help 🤦🏻‍♀️

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 26/04/2021 21:09

Garden table and benches. Which match my new patio beautifully and wipe well while still being aesthetically pleasing. God I’m old. I also recently got a coat with a good hood.

Fespital · 26/04/2021 21:27

Orange) Got that 4 years ago 😂 And a parasol to match 3 years ago. And a handheld vacuum to clean up the mess 2 years ago 😂

I bought myself a rescue cat with some of the money my parents gave me to treat myself!

Fespital · 26/04/2021 21:28

Coat was 2 Christmases ago. My DSis even customised it for me to add extra pockets!

Now now. Let's not get silly 😂 I've got 2 kids for life. Isn't that punishment enough?

(I love other people's cats. Just struggle to keep 2 DC, 1 DH and various houseplants alive!)

I got Lego which turned me into an official AFOL (adult fan of Lego) and has led me to a fantastic hobby and plastic brick community.

Iampicklerick · 26/04/2021 21:51

I’ve asked for a Garmin watch, some books, perfume, Bettys cakes, and I want a designer belt. That’s it Grin

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 26/04/2021 22:03

A divorce. It took me reaching 40 to decide I could no longer put up with my exes abusive and controlling ways. 😀

PrudenceDictates · 26/04/2021 22:07

Got taken away for a surprise weekend to Amsterdam. Then the best part of the present arrived 9 months later... DD!

Strokethefurrywall · 26/04/2021 23:22

I was well and truly spoiled on my 40th. Got the new apple iwatch that I’d asked for, a Tacori ring and a rainforest retreat in Honduras from DH. He also flew my sister and best friend out to where we live as a surprise so that was by far the best gift I received.
He’s usually pretty shite with thinking about gifts but he scored a home run for my 40th.

PomBearWithoutHerOFRS · 27/04/2021 01:37

I bought myself a signed first edition book. It is the second most expensive thing I've ever bought. I told DH it was from him and the children, used joint money.
It was about 7 years before he found out how much it was.
(That said, it was less than £400, and we could afford it)
I don't think I got anything else. I expect my Mam gave me money in a card.

Eekay · 27/04/2021 01:46

My DD1 sourced second hand copies of the last 40 Man Booker prize winners.
I was thrilled: not just by the gift itself but so touched by all that effort and planning amd saving she'd gone to.
She was only 18 at the time.
Probably the most thoughtful gift of my life.

Strokethefurrywall · 27/04/2021 02:20

Apologies, just saw that you were looking for ideas around the $150 mark - in that case I’d go with an engraved piece of jewelry or maybe a day trip to Paris (do they still do lastminute.com trips)?

Or some professional family photos?

krustykittens · 27/04/2021 02:27

My dog. He is still with me and he is my best friend.

reluctantbrit · 27/04/2021 07:49

I got a solitaire ring for my 40th and a Steiff Teddy.

Both are loved nearly 10 years later.

For my. 50th I plan on a holiday mainly because I don't really need anything.

Arrierttyclock · 27/04/2021 11:25

I've asked for pearls for my 30th

Arrierttyclock · 27/04/2021 11:26

I would of liked to have gone away but I'll be 5 months pregnant and COVID so 🤷🏽‍♀️

AfternoonToffee · 27/04/2021 11:30

I had an outside wall clock. I think I also got a pink Casio watch. So if I had bigger budget a nice watch.

52andblue · 27/04/2021 15:10

Ah. My Dd.
ExH didn't get me anything
(he said he'd given me my dd, she was IVF due to mf so ? but yes, her arrival was the best gift i could ever have had)

IHaveBrilloHair · 27/04/2021 15:11

Harry Styles ticket which I bought myself!Grin

FlemCandango · 27/04/2021 15:17

A very beautiful oil painting. I am looking at it right now and it makes me very happy.

It is third one down on the artists homepage. gopaddycampbell.wordpress.com/

Get something that will last and you will love. Happy Birthday
