Can anyone give me a rough idea of the costs of moving please. Sale around £310,000, purchase around £375,000. Moving out of town, approx 40mins away. Solicitors, estate agents, removals, mortgage fees, full survey and stamp duty - anything else?

Hi Op,

Do you mean the approx cost of those items or any other categories of costs?

starfish4 · 26/04/2021 16:50

Sorry, if I wasn't clear, the approximate costs of any services listed and anything I've overlooked. Doesn't matter if anyone replying can't give me figures on everything - just looking forward to a year's time and hopeful move.

We’ve recently moved and had a spreadsheet to work out costs. Only thing I would add to your list is a budget for sprucing up your house before sale (plants, paint etc). There’s online calculators for stamp duty. For the rest best to phone a few solicitors/moving companies/estate agents as the fees can really vary. We also baked in our budget an overspend so that nothing extra panicked us! If you’re moving somewhere bigger then some funds for furniture. Finally, another pot for fixing stuff at the new place. Our purchase had a excellent home report (Scotland) but we’ve still had to fix a shower, buy new dishwasher etc. The last bit we didn’t really expect.
