Vitamin D deficiency - meds

Has anyone here had experience of severe vitamin D deficiency? I've been put on 50,000IU (colecalciferol) for 6 weeks. Interested to hear from anyone who's been on it, what your symptoms were, and if/how things improved after the course of meds.

I was put on a 6 week course and then reduced to a smaller permanent dose. No side effects but definite felt less tired for being on it. I didn't know I was deficient until it was picked up in a blood test

I was put on a similar dose to you. I had been feeling tired and like I was wading through treacle when walking. After about 2 weeks I could feel improvement. At the end of the course I felt totally back to normal.

Similar to the above posters, it took a couple of weeks but then the extreme fatigue and low mood lifted. No side effects. I take a regular dose now although I do sometimes forget for a while, I can also recognize the symptoms now if it starts to drop and then make sure I go back to taking them regularly again

Thank you for the replies, that's really encouraging. I'm definitely still in the wading through treacle zone! But I've only had one dose so far. Have been feeling utterly shit for ages and didn't know why so this has given me hope 🤞

I was exhausted, an emotional wreck and all of me ached, sometimes my neck would partly seize up so I couldn’t turn my head much. After a few weeks I was less tired (still had the crazy shift job and non-sleeping child so it was an improvement but not completely resolved), didn’t ache so much, my neck worked. I was still a depressed, anxious emotional wreck. It turned out that was life not vitamin D deficiency.

I knew someone whose medication meant she must keep right out of the sun, always wear factor 50 and a big hat, etc.

She faithfully did as she was told for 2 years, but gradually suffered from increasingly debilitating fatigue and lethargy.

Turned out that her vitamin D levels were so low, they were virtually off the scale - but nobody had told her to take supplements, let alone actually prescribed them. 🤬
