What's a bone density blood test for?

I have adenomyosis and cannot get my iron up as still flood badly.

Spoke to GP (locum as mines on leave until May) to ask if I needed another test now course has finished.

I mentioned how I'm still having heavy periods for 2 weeks and 5 days in flooding through tampon and pad in 20 minutes for hours in end.

Tranexamic acid doesn't help - just delays it.

Coil hasn't helped and I lost 2nd one Friday and will tell him when he calls with iron results.

So as well as FBC he's asked for Urea and electrolytes and bone density.

I didn't see that until after I left - what's it for? I'm assuming it's related?!

Are you sure it’s not bone profile blood test?

I have adenomyosis and have loads of issues with my iron. I also have a few other health issues. But the heavy periods causing iron deficiency can be linked to other low vitamin and minerals needed for good bone growth such as calcium.

So it's very likely the GP is checking if your heavy periods and subsequent low iron are effecting your bones. Rather than looking at your bones to see if there's something significant 'wrong' causing the heavy periods.

It may have said bone profile?!

Do you know what that's for?

Yeah the tests are because of prolonged heavy bleeding and he did say they'd need to consider other options if my iron didn't come up.

Wasn't sure if he meant iron wise or for the adeno?

But now that coil has come out I think we've exhausted all the non surgical options. I lost both in 3 months.

I now think I also have a posterior prolapse so think surgery is likely option.
