Interviewing for a mid level council officer position but it would be a fantastic opportunity and it would make a big difference financially to the family:
Currently prepping I’m expecting
Tell us above when you’ve had to prioritise workload?
Tell us about a time when a project failed?
Why do you think suitable candidate?
What questions do you have for us?

Is there any other ones that are likely to pop up?

Maybe:
Do you prefer working in a team, or on your own?
What achievement are you most proud of?

Also, make sure you remember to say "I did" rather than "We did" when talking about what you've done before!

Difficult without knowing the role you're applying for:

  • working in a team,
  • managing/ supervising others
  • dealing with difficult people
  • confidentiality
Look at the job description and think about what you would ask if you were interviewing.

Thank you for this thread, I’ve got an interview on Friday.

I am reading through the person & job descriptions really carefully. I’m prepping a couple of answers about big projects/safeguarding/data protection and dealing with difficult or sensitive situations. I’m also thinking about the bits of the job I won’t be so strong on as other candidates. The job is in a school and I have never worked on a school before, although I am a school Governor so I need to think about the transferable skills I’ve got from that and where I can acknowledge I’ve got gaps.

Good luck autumn.
I think I need to have a few different projects I delivered on and think about past jobs a bit more not just my current role.
Definitely data protection and safeguarding will come up for you @autumnboys familiarise yourself with their Covid policy as well it might come up.
This job is in public health but the questions will be based on star system.

Will you be in charge of others? They might ask about what you would do if a member of the team was under performing in some way, try and see how you handle awkward or sensitive situations.

SwanShaped · 25/04/2021 19:26

How you dealt with conflict in a team.

SwanShaped · 25/04/2021 19:28

Why are you applying. And why for this job specifically. What are your strengths and weaknesses. What skills can you bring to the team.

Orchidflower1 · 25/04/2021 19:31

Have you any gaps in your recent cv? If so do you have clear explanations?

Good luck- make sure you eat and drink beforehand even if you don’t feel like it.

VioletCharlotte · 25/04/2021 19:48

Tell us about a time you've delivered excellent customer service.

...you dealt with a particularly challenging stakeholder
...you were able to put changes in place that led to a more efficient/ effective way of working
...you had to deal with sensitive/ confidential data or information
...you had to manage conflict

Lots of good examples and advice here www.how2become.com/blog/star-interview-technique/

Be prepared for an equality and diversity question too, we always include one as standard.

MWMWMW · 25/04/2021 19:52

If it’s a council role, have they advertised a job description and person spec? If so, the questions will be based around the these, surely

thebitchoflliving · 25/04/2021 20:26

Tell us about a time when you've been able to change somebody's mind? How did you do that?

Tell us a time when you've had to demonstrate good team work,

Tell us about a time when you've had to resolve a dispute.

Tell us about a time when you've had to bring creativity to your role

You just need a bank of around 8 scenarios in your head (or written down) then adapt them to demonstrate whatever skill they're looking for.

Best of luck, STAR is a tedious interview system but not difficult if you've got your scenarios sorted.

MrsHastingslikethebattle · 25/04/2021 21:40

I am struggling with the scenarios, haven't got a clue what to say for each of them!

terraclutter · 26/04/2021 20:20

Following as got an interview on Wednesday also in schools like @autumnboys
Good luck for us all for this week and hopefully a hood outcome.
I bloody hate interviews. It's in Teams which is terrifying me.

sofaRunner · 26/04/2021 20:24

If you say you can do or have experience of something give an example. It's a lot more meaningful

HelpPlsArhhgg · 28/04/2021 20:12

IT issues with mine too but I also got it !

Kaboomba · 30/04/2021 20:33

Tell us about a time you've had to deal with conflict with an individual or within a team.

Tells us about a time where you were unsuccessful in meeting your goal? What did you learn from this?

What is your management style?

What one skill do you think is the most important for this role?

Recount a time when you have given perfect customer service

Telll us about a time you've had to collaborate with key stakeholders.

Kaboomba · 30/04/2021 20:34

Ignore me just seen the update that you got it! Congratulations
