How have the daffodils fared in your part of the world this spring ?

In my corner of West Yorkshire they have done so well this year. There are still some relatively fresh and late-blooming bunches to be seen among those that have begun to wither and retreat. It's been quite a show and now the bluebells, forget-me-nots and tulips are showing up.

Should also mention the dandelions, celandines, buttercups etc are also keeping the yellow theme going.

We don't have daffodils as live abroad in Africa. But these beauties are everywhere!

Yes very numerous and quite long-lived. But finished now, just noticed this weekend.

I never see bluebells where I live, I am too urban now, I need to hunt some out - have they all gone yet or still going?

Bluebells are just starting, plenty of time to catch some

The bluebells here are just getting going. I think they peak in May.

I’m on the edge of West Yorkshire and I’d say the daffodils have had a dreadful year. I’m quite sad about it, I adore them. The combination of hard frosts overnight and hot sun in the day, plus lack of rain has meant they’ve died off really quickly.

Honeyroar · 24/04/2021 22:02

But yes the bluebells are coming out well.

I am going to see if I can find some bluebells then! Thanks for the idea which has come from this thread.

The bulbs have all had a really good spring without too much of a battering from wind and rain or extreme temperatures, the best for a number of years, especially crocuses which tend to cop random changes quite hard.

The daffs are just finishing, still looking good in shady spots.

I live very close to some bluebell woods and they're just getting going now, although the heavy footfall of the winter and people going off path as the leaves develop has weakened them bit near the paths.

Happinesscomesfromwithin, is that bougainvillea? It's beautiful.

Daffodils have been great here, the primroses are still going strong and the bluebells are just starting to come out. It'll be a sea of blue in 7 to 10 days.

My favourite this year have been the wood anenomes. So pretty.

There's one patch of bright yellow daffs that's hanging on near me. The others have called it a day, by and large.

My daffs took ages to flower, just starting to fade. I have actea/pheasant eye that are in bud.

We spotted our first daffodils in flower on Christmas eve, (North Yorkshire) & there are still loads in flower although a lot have gone over. Tulips & harebells everywhere, & the wild garlic is just coming to flower. Also some rhododendrons are just starting to bloom, I saw 2 flowers opening today.

Happinesscomesfromwithin · 30/04/2021 12:53

Yes it grows everywhere here! Such a delight. @chinesedragonTeapot
