Those of you with 3 children- what car do you have?

Have 2 DS & thinking about trying for a third. We currently have an evoque (DH’s car) & a regular Mini Cooper (my run around car with I’m without DC). DH would be desperately sad if he had to sell his beloved car!

BMW 5 series estate. But our eldest goes in the middle between the two other car seats without a car seat. It's allowed but not ideal. She's only 5cm off needing a car seat. And we only all go in the car at weekends, for school runs she's in a high back booster in the front. You couldn't get three car seats in the back if yours are all younger.

I currently have a Ford galaxy but next week picking up my Peugeot 5008. I have 7 children but 3 are teens x

Mumof3girlsandaboy · 24/04/2021 20:50

Volvo XC90

RandomMess · 24/04/2021 20:52

Citroen C4 Picasso

FlyingPandas · 24/04/2021 20:54

Ford S Max. Seems to be the go to car for any family with 3 children around here!

happytobemrsg · 24/04/2021 20:55

@Sanch1 my nearly 5 year old is 120cm at the mo. A new baby would be in about 18m time so DH thinks DS might be tall enough to sit in the middle

Ford c max. 7 seater variety, bit smaller than the s max.

Wineoclockinwales · 24/04/2021 21:02

Vauxhall Zarhia here

Ohhgreat · 24/04/2021 21:04

Ford S Max. Seriously, you won't believe how much space it has inside, and 3 proper seats in the middle row so no being squashed.

ohidoliketobe · 24/04/2021 21:05

DC3 due any day, DC 1 and 2 still in high backed boosters. We wanted a car which could fit 3 across (not having to use fold down seats in the boot due to boot space and access) and didn't fancy an MPV style.
We got a Peugeot 5003 2 months ago and love it

Livefortherain · 24/04/2021 21:06

DH has a Vauxhall Zafira. Our children are 3, 7 and 9. We never use the 2 extra seats in the back though.

When the youngest was born, we had a Ford focus. It was a squeeze fitting a newborn seat and 2 high back boosters but they all went in!

We are only in the car on weekends to collect the shopping as DH works during the week and I don't drive.

We’re on our second 2017 Citroen C4 Picasso Grand, absolutely adore it! And surprisingly it was the most eco friendly car we could find other than ££££ Tesla which we couldn’t do (and not sure if would fit 3 isofix ?)

autumnboys · 24/04/2021 21:06

We had an SMax which I loved. We ended up trading it in for Galaxy when something went very expensively wrong with its electrics. The Galaxy is an absolute workhorse and all fine, but I loved the SMax. Agreed with the PP who said it is very much the car of choice round here for people with three kids.

Lindtnotlint · 24/04/2021 21:07

Get a multimac and put three kids in your existing back seat. It’s awesome!

Xaxnxdxrxexaxandrews87 · 24/04/2021 21:17

I’m due my third in August, my eldest is 9 so won’t need a seat by the time baby arrives, I have a Velar and will make it work as I’m
Sure there will be enough room, as @Sanch1 said we only all go in at weekends x

NicolaDunsire · 24/04/2021 21:20

Renault Scenic (might have a Grand in there too?). 3 full seats across the back & 2 pop up seats in the boot. Used to have a VW Touran too.

Shezlon · 24/04/2021 21:26

I have three all quite close together (all in car seats at the same time) and I've had a Renault grand scenic and Citroen grand Picasso. Both 7 seaters with 3 proper seats in the back and 3 isofix points. All the seats move back and forwards individually so they are really flexible. My dh also has a 7 seater bmw (x5 I think) but when we go out as a family, we go in my car because it's so much more comfortable for 5 of us. Especially now we have teens!

coronafiona · 24/04/2021 21:28

VW touran, sharan, seat Alhambra while they were little.

xyzandabc · 24/04/2021 21:28

Did have a Toyota Verso for 1st 8 years of 3 kids. Now have a VW Touran now kids are older.

Bicnod · 24/04/2021 21:29

Seat Alhambra - I love it - we can fit seven people in it or the five of us and all our camping gear. Three full size seats across the back.

Onemoremakesthree · 24/04/2021 21:30

Volvo XC90, I wouldn't have anything else now!

Drbrowns · 24/04/2021 21:30

Ford c max grand. Has seven seats but we can only use half the boot.

ElfDragon · 24/04/2021 21:32

I now only have one left in a seat, but when I was looking I needed 2 in a high backed booster plus the infant carrier.

I had a Honda CRV, and that worked for about 18 months as had dd1 in booster behind driver, dd2 in a rear facing hbb in the middle, and ds in infant carrier behind passenger seat (it took about 3 hours at the in-car safety centre trying out various car seat combinations!) BUT dd2 was tiny (she was almost 6 when ds was born, and stayed in the rear facing seat until 7.

Once dd2 had to change around, and ds needed to move up into a bigger seat, I changed for an XC90.

Depending on your seat and car needs, there aren’t all that many options out there.

Cupcakegirl13 · 24/04/2021 21:35

We’ve just upgraded from an s max to a galaxy, both easily fit three in car seats on the back seat .

CherryMaple · 24/04/2021 21:35

On our second VW Touran. Before the Tourans, we had a VW Sharan. Three proper seats across the middle row in both models. I had all 3 DCs in car seats in the Sharan at the same time and it was great. The Sharan had sliding doors too which I LOVED. If you are getting a wide car, I would really recommend sliding doors if you have two DCs plus a baby - so much easier.

Both of the Tourans have been brilliant, and we’d like to buy this one at the end of the lease because we’re so pleased with it.
