Best toy to stimulate 1 month old

Hi all,

I keep on reading that I should stimulate my 1 month old but he really doesn't seem interested in his baby gym or soft toys at all. He looks around a lot but doesn't really seem fascinated by anything apart from lights. Thanks for your help

Your face and you speaking to him is enough at one month old. Don't listen to silly articles that are designed to make us feel we are not doing enough. This makes me so angry. Your dc needs you and lots of love and milk! Nothing else. You're doing a great job xxx

At the moment your life can only focus for the distance of between your boobs and your face. Your face and voice is the most exciting thing in the world.

Where on earth are you reading that? They just like tits in my experience.

I agree
Your face and voice are the best stimulus at this age.

If you want toys too then black and white toys are good.

*lo not life!

SnugglySnerd · 24/04/2021 18:06

Just cuddle them, feed them and talk/sing to them. That's all they really need at that age.

Mine enjoyed the Lamaze pram toys from about 6 weeks, Freddie firefly was a particular hit.

This 100%. Or if bottle fed like mine, bottles or dummies. Whatever. I cringe now at the stuff I used to buy and wave about in dc1s face when she was a newborn. Waste of time.

Milk, clean bum, sleep and cuddles. That’s all they need. Talk to them and sing to them. Try and go for a walk with them outside sometimes, for your sanity as much as theirs. They absolutely don’t need any toys for a while yet.

Black and white stuff. That's what new born babies can focus on? At least that's what read when my dc was a baby, and had some pictures/cards etc came with baby magazine. I didn't buy it but I saw the black and white mobile intended to stimulate new borns.

When DD was that age she was mainly stimulated by binge watching Line of Duty. We did have a jungle gym but she had no real interest in it for months.
I'm currently 31 weeks with no 2 and it's main stimulus will likely involve being poked by a 2 year old.

All they need at that age is for you to talk to them, smile at them, cuddle them - when people talk about stimulation for babies of that age, they are either a) trying to sell you something b) meaning “don’t leave them all alone in a room and only go in to feed and change them” or c) misinterpreting research that actually boils down to point b.
