SDLT bill after house sale?

We moved 4 weeks ago and have just received a SDLT bill (only small as we did it within the SDLT window). However the solicitors final bill included the SDLT so from our perspective it’s all been paid when we transferred all the monies to them which we assumed they then transferred on to all the relevant people. WWYD now? Obviously we will call the solicitor on Monday but I’m worried that this is still outstanding after they’ve paid what we were expecting? Why wouldn’t the solicitor have transferred that money by now? Has this happened to anyone else?

I say small- it’s another £1500 and money is obviously tight since the move so we are worried about having an additional unexpected cost! But luckily smaller than it would otherwise have been it that makes sense.

What was the sale price & how much did the conveyancer bill you?

Llamasinpajamas · 24/04/2021 14:04

The sale price was £550,000. The bill was for tens of thousands but covered the solicitors fees, estate agent fees, deposit money from savings etc and included the SDLT in the breakdown so we assumed when we transferred the whole amount it would be paid onwards like the other costs.

Are you sure the bill actually covered the stamp duty and it wasn't just their fees they were billing you for filing the stamp duty return on your behalf?

Llamasinpajamas · 24/04/2021 18:54

@daryldixonsdreamgirl I’m fairly certain it was the actual stamp duty charge as they sent a quote at the start for all their fees and the end monies needed was that + EA fee + SDLT etc!

So if you check the final invoice OP, it should have been £2,500 for the SDLT?

SDLT should be paid by your conveyancers on the day of completion. Someone there has messed up the calculation by the sound of things.
