Reaching the epitome of middle ages

NoEffingWay · 24/04/2021 00:26

Accidentally ordered giant apple catcher pants from m&s (probably due to needing new glasses).

My gods, they are a new level of comfort. They don't fall down and are an absolute joy to wander around in. And at harvest time I will be very popular.

Am I now going to start buying clothes from the back of the daily mail?

Is this the beginning of buying for comfort rather than fashion?

Send me your recommendations for the slide into glorious middle age, where elasticated waistbands are an integral part of my wardrobe. Grin

Look - not loke. Weird autocorrect.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 24/04/2021 09:38

Big pants and petticoats all the way..!!

Meruem · 24/04/2021 09:54

Ah big pants. So comfortable. DD was telling me she needed to sort her underwear drawer and so I told her how I fold my big pants kondo style and she laughed and said “that’s not going to work with my thongs” Grin

I have also given up jeans. Why put up with stiff fabric and digging in zips and buttons, when you can wear elasticated stretchy jeggings! I am aware they are no longer in fashion, but this is of no concern to me.

Likewise my ugg boots. They wrap my feet in a fluffy cloud. They will be my winter footwear until I die. I am comfort all the way now.

CeibaTree · 24/04/2021 10:13

@ihatemessyplay

Op I've been wearing these since my mid twenties. I actually consider the ones with lace up the top my nice ones Grin
Me too! I never understood why women forced themselves into skimpy uncomfortable knickers when they could live in comfort.

OP I don't think this was a particularly middle-aged thing to do!

HelebethH · 24/04/2021 10:14

A nice warm vest, bedsocks and handbag with lots of pockets for useful stuff.

NoWordForFluffy · 24/04/2021 10:17

@MorriseysGladioli

A tartan shopping trolley. The sturdy kind, but if you want to be more "with it", I believe you can get more flimsy trolleys with flowers on. Smile
I have one with flowers on (from IKEA). It's perfectly sturdy, and is over a decade old. Grin
QueenofLouisiana · 24/04/2021 10:22

We actually look at the garden catalogues which we seem to get with ever-increasing regularity. A Sunday trip to the garden centre has become “a nice trip out”. We spent ages discussing the colour scheme for garden pots.

And yes, comfy pants! I look at thongs and wonder why I ever thought they were a good idea!

CockneyCutie · 24/04/2021 11:36

@rookiemere

Aaaahh... a line-drying day..❤️❤️❤️

Nothing beats getting in a couple of lines of clean, warm-from-the-sun washing, the creases blown away, folding it all up and putting it away!!
A blissful thing!!

FindingMeno · 24/04/2021 13:27

Oh, long nighties so they're a "decent" length.
A handy cord for your specs.
And always a flip cover phone case.
Practicalities win.

Timeforatincture · 24/04/2021 18:49

Now these are great pants. They have little legs!

Great with dresses in the summer. Aimed at the larger lady (which I am), but sizes go down to an 8 I think.

Oh and I have a wicker shopping trolley.

This is the definition of a good day for me! Nothing quite like it grin]

My mother used to say this when I was young and never understood what she meant.

StCharlotte · 24/04/2021 19:32

@ProfYaffle

Well I mis-spelt serf but if we're going truly middle ages spelling has yet to be fixed by the dictionary Grin
Wouldn't it be ferf?
FleetwoodRaincoat · 24/04/2021 19:43

Actually just spat my coffee out at that phrase Grin

I've been wearing these since my late 20s I'm 35 now I have 'nice' ones for special occasions but comfort is the name of the game!
Anonmousse · 24/04/2021 20:08

I've found my people. I'm almost a bit disappointed on a sunny/windy day if I havent got enough laundry to put a wash on!!Blush

I cant bring myself to consider a shopping trolley yet, however practical!

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 24/04/2021 20:35

I’ve recently bought 3 pinafores for work because of the pockets. I’m already a full Sloggi girl

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 24/04/2021 20:39

@Lanique

Ladies, can i recommend these... I bought a pack for dds as slightly jokey comfort pants for when they're on their periods and ended up keeping three of the five pairs. Perfect for wriggling into after my evening bath. Dh thinks they're hideous.

OMG I wear these and they are BRILLIANT
Miljea · 24/04/2021 21:41

@OrchestraOfWankery

I gave in to big knickers this year! I'm in my 60s, but according to WHO am still middle aged Smile A very comfy place to be.

Mid-heel bootage, flat pumps and elasticated waist jeans or leggings, worn under dresses or long tops. Bliss!

I have a fold-up light trolley, but haven't used it yet.

Had my longish hair cut into a sensible bob, and have owned and worn cardis and long, brightly coloured scarves for many years.

Find myself eyeing up trench style macs.

Not yet at the Peoples Friend stage, though! Grin

I need help with my hair! I'm 58,

It's 3" longer than shoulder, still greasy after all these years 😉 Only just suggesting grey but of course any ' chestnut' suggestion is now 'brown'... 😂

I wash it every day; blow the fringe, quick waft over the rest; elastic bandy thing, twist, loop, clip. Done. Every single day.

It was brought home to me in a Group I'm in (and admin!). All 55+ ladies. 4 out of the six of us, 2 weeks ago, had desperately longed for hair appointments.

I'm wondering if I'm missing a trick? Should I now have a Bob? But my hair is so thin and lank?

BRB2021 · 24/04/2021 21:48

I was beyond excited seeing a teasmade on Freecycle. Sadly it didn't keep my blooming tea hot, but it made me realise I was way passed middle aged

HeadNorth · 24/04/2021 22:00

My DD says it is the sign of middle age when you start noticing and pointing out lovely trees. She has a point. I never noticed trees as a teen or in my twenties, now a resplendent horse chestnut is a spice of genuine joy.

Thighdentitycrisis · 24/04/2021 22:05

I spend ages choosing slippers
And recently had a good chat with Dsis about our feet

theheartofthematter · 24/04/2021 22:15

Oddballs pants are the comfiest pants ever. I highly recommend. They catch and keep all the 'apples' comfy

partyatthepalace · 24/04/2021 22:40

I think you have to imagine yourself as a 1950s sexpot and they take on a diffferemt hue... at least in the right light. 👗

They are so comfy you will never go back.. I have just discovered sloggi bras which are awesome, and this week I am going to buy some fitflip rally trainers 😁

RaraRachael · 25/04/2021 09:50

I've just bought these. They are SO comfortable and the sheepskin so nice on my feet when I've just come in from a long walk Grin
