Reaching the epitome of middle ages

NoEffingWay · 24/04/2021 00:26

Accidentally ordered giant apple catcher pants from m&s (probably due to needing new glasses).

My gods, they are a new level of comfort. They don't fall down and are an absolute joy to wander around in. And at harvest time I will be very popular.

Am I now going to start buying clothes from the back of the daily mail?

Is this the beginning of buying for comfort rather than fashion?

Send me your recommendations for the slide into glorious middle age, where elasticated waistbands are an integral part of my wardrobe. Grin

@ProfYaffle The curse of not proof reading your own thread title again. Grin.

I shall put myself in the stocks for punishment!

@ProfYaffle

I hate it when the Black Death wipes out all the surfs and the land goes uncultivated.
Serfs? (Or alternatively, smurfs?)
Buckingafout · 24/04/2021 07:37

OP I can go a step further. I have discovered Men's briefs. Wide elastic, comfy material. Why the fuck should men get comfy pants and women these stringy bits of nylon? It's my small act of feminism.

ProfYaffle · 24/04/2021 07:38

Well I mis-spelt serf but if we're going truly middle ages spelling has yet to be fixed by the dictionary Grin

@picklemewalnuts

Bird watching. (Me, the last few years). DH has started thinking golf looks fun...
He’s wrong. Golf is a series of tiny triumphs punctuating a landscape of disappointment. It’s man or woman against the course and their own shortcomings. Nobody who plays golf is ever happy with their game but they survive by believing that things will get better. Golf is the only sport that you can spontaneously unlearn over night to plunge you into despair and punish you for overconfidence. I love it.

I bought some of these to wear after the birth of my youngest as I thought they'd be nice and comfy over my c-section scar. I have never looked back! Big pants lovers unite!

Duh. Sorry, had mentally autocorrected the title.

Perhaps you will be one of the rising middle classes itching at the sumptuary laws. Grin

RaraRachael · 24/04/2021 08:05

I recently bought big pants from Next and I loved them. No more lace and frilly digging into my midriff.

picklemewalnuts · 24/04/2021 08:06

I arrived at all these markers early, and thought I'd be immune to middle age- I was already there. But no... new temptations creep in. Taking a flask of coffee out, travelling with my own pillow.

You don't arrive, you just keep acquiring more habits that had no appeal when you were younger.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 24/04/2021 08:13

I’m becoming quite tempted by People’s Friend.

Lanique · 24/04/2021 08:19

Ladies, can i recommend these... I bought a pack for dds as slightly jokey comfort pants for when they're on their periods and ended up keeping three of the five pairs. Perfect for wriggling into after my evening bath. Dh thinks they're hideous.

Having read the responses I can also add that I only wear flat shoes, love a garden centre, and have a favourite Emma Bridgewater mug with birds on it.

I am so fucking cool it hurts Grin

I’ve been wearing those knickers for years!

ChairmansReserve · 24/04/2021 08:36

I thought this was going to be about jousting and the plague.

TeaAddict235 · 24/04/2021 08:41

There was a thread recently about doing things considered 'old', it was put into the classics.

CalaminePink · 24/04/2021 08:47

@ChairmansReserve

I thought this was going to be about jousting and the plague.
But jousting and getting the plague in big knickers. Grin

I wear M&S midi pants - but in a size larger than what I am - lovely!! Not really massive but sooooo comfy
( and they get dried on the radiator so they don’t shrink in the dryer and start digging in )
Bra off when at home, ‘floppy’ bottoms, (either pjs or trackies) and a little M&S vest, keeps your back warm!! Life is too short for uncomfortable clothing and footwear... and by your middle years, you frankly don’t care!!! Putting heels on is like putting your feet in a bacon slicer... I can manage a mid-heel in boots, but any higher and I get a ‘Dick Emery’ sort of walk!!😀

MinnieMountain · 24/04/2021 08:54

I take a flask of coffee out because our home- done coffee is often nicer than the coffee shop stuff. And we only have instant in the office.

MrsMoastyToasty · 24/04/2021 08:56

Get listening to some "proper music " (for me that is anything from the early 80's) and not that racket they listen to nowadays.
Call anyone more than 10 years younger than you a youngster and tell them "things weren't like that in my day ".

PeskyRooksRGT · 24/04/2021 09:03

I love my skechers go walks mmm so comfy.
DH and I are planning to get metal detectors as our new hobby.
I got two nice pairs of jeans in the British Heart Foundation last week one from Marksies and one Cotton Traders. The assistant asked if I needed a bag - if course not I've got one of those tiny folded up shopping bags clipped to my handbag!!
Loving life as a middle aged 'lady'!

rookiemere · 24/04/2021 09:10

I embraced middle age a few years ago when I realised that my cardigan of invisibility meant I could walk where others feared to tread, now lockdown is ending am tempted to see how far I can get - into Buckingham palace maybe ?

Also ridiculously excited when it's a line drying day.

Clothes wise I will only buy natural fabrics - amazing how many brands catering for menopausal women seem to think we'd enjoy wearing polyester.

helpmemakeit · 24/04/2021 09:10

I buy plants in the co op when I've only gone in for a pint of milk.......

LittleBearPad · 24/04/2021 09:13

I bought them when pregnant. I never went back. I love my big pants

OrchestraOfWankery · 24/04/2021 09:14

I gave in to big knickers this year! I'm in my 60s, but according to WHO am still middle aged Smile A very comfy place to be.

Mid-heel bootage, flat pumps and elasticated waist jeans or leggings, worn under dresses or long tops. Bliss!

I have a fold-up light trolley, but haven't used it yet.

Had my longish hair cut into a sensible bob, and have owned and worn cardis and long, brightly coloured scarves for many years.

Find myself eyeing up trench style macs.

Not yet at the Peoples Friend stage, though! Grin

Scarby9 · 24/04/2021 09:24

For my circle of friends, these come under the generic Victoria Wood heading of 'Mmmm, they loke comfy'!
