Anyone very knowledgeable about womb linings?!

Sorry for random question - just wondering if there’s anyone with great knowledge of womb linings and periods as I’m baffled. Can you tell from the thickness of a woman’s womb lining how heavy the subsequent period will be? Does thicker lining mean heavier period or does it not really correlate this way?

I’m 38, I have endometriosis and adenomyosis. Have been mostly off hormonal contraception since I had my twins in 2016.

Last few months my pain has dramatically worsened especially mid cycle. This month the pain started a couple of weeks after my period started as standard ovulation pain, then turned into start of period type pain but my period never came. I have been in agony. Spoke to GP who referred me for an urgent scan which I had on Tuesday (day 38 of my cycle). Scan was all clear and the sonographer said she wasn’t sure why I hadn’t had my period and that my womb lining didn’t look very thick - not as thin as if I had just had a period but not very thick either, just average. She said I should get my hormone levels checked (I’m having blood tests tomorrow).

Then the next day my period started (day 39). My periods are always heavy but this one is insanely heavy.

How can I be having such a heavy period if my womb lining wasn’t very thick the previous day?

The pain is horrendous, the bleeding is horrendous and I have no idea why it was so late either (haven’t had a cycle this long in my life). Definitely wasn’t pregnant either.

I have been referred back to gynae - last time I saw them they only wanted to do a hysterectomy but I don’t want one yet, especially now I’m having so much pain mid cycle, I would rather have excision surgery again and see how that goes first since my last one was 6 years ago.

I am sure my endometriosis is worse now, but the fact that this extra long cycle has coincided with more severe pain has made me more concerned. I’m sure the wait to see the gynae will be very lengthy too.
