Anyone bought the axkid mini kid car seat?

Would you recommend?
We currently have the joie isize but my 2 year old is quite cramped up rear facing, he's quite tall for his age.

I want to keep him rear facing as long as possible so saw the axkid mini kid might be a good option?

Yes, I have a tall 4 year old in one. Plenty of growing room, designed for age up to 6.

Much, much more sturdy than Joie seats.

Yes, we have two (along with a rear facing Joie and Nuna). It is the better seat by far in terms of space, comfort, the ease of the self adjusting head rest etc. Our older child is 5.5, high on the weight and height averages and still fits comfortably.

Ok that's great thank you. I think I've just had it drilled into me that because it's not isofix it won't be as secure. Also until recently if never even heard of axkid.

We used ours for both children. Older ds is very tall and easily fitted until his younger brother needed the axkid (he would have been 4+4 I think). Younger ds did til at least his 4th birthday as well (was 4+2 at lockdown last March so then didn’t go in the car for ages 😂).

There’s a knack to fitting the axkid for sure, and we sometimes removed it for various reasons but once it’s in it was very secure. I’d recommend buying some extra tether straps if you might use it in more than one car - they’re the bit that’s a real faff to move.

Just realised it doesn't rotate. Isn't it hard to get heavy older toddlers in the seat?

Might depend on your car - we had them for DH’s old car as options were very limited and tall DS1 was very cramped as he got older (he used it until he turned 4 and still talks sometimes about how squashed he felt). DS2 is 3 and still in one and doesn’t seem to have any issues but he’s not as tall and we now have a bigger car!

I do wish there were more options for bigger kids. DS1 hit 18kg at 2.5 and there were very few options for a harnessed car seat, never mind a rear facing one

Yep I've got a minikid. My 6 year old still fits in it although he's moved on to a HBB. It's a great seat. Isofix is no more secure - it's just meant to be more idiot-proof. The minikid is Swedish Plus tested which is the highest safety standard out there.

A toddler can easily climb in themselves due to the low sides. Both of mine have.

A similar car seat to consider is the Britax Max Way Plus, which has also passed the Swedish Plus Test. It's the seat we have (we tried out both seats and preferred it to the Minikid) and we've been very happy with it. It's a bit cheaper than the Minikid and I think it's on offer atm too.

I had the two way elite for my tall son. Lasted till he was 5. Great seat easy to get them in and comfy too.

It's a big hit here. As a side note, there's a cheaper version called the move. We have both and whilst the mini kid does have the useful self adjusting head rest, you need to change it so rarely it's worth the saving. I imagine DD will fit until she's 6 or 7. At nearly 5 though she's asking to face forward.
