Hi all
So my little one was born wee 34+1 she was just over 2kg and overall done well just needed some support warm bed .. and antibiotics.
I did ask when midwife came for a visit if we need vitamins but seems like they just give you the same answer as a full term baby and that if they have more than 500ml formula a day then it's not needed...
I'm concerned that maybe she need more vitamins and I'm missing out something?? Any advice ?
Thanks x

Is she just on normal formula?
Formula is fortified so if they are taking enough of that they don't need extra vitamins.

If she is on formula then she will have more than sufficient vitamins if she is drinking at least 500ml.

In fact if you top her up with extra vitamins she will risk have too much of vitamins A, D and E which are fat soluble vitamins.

It's breast fed babies who are at risk of vitamin D deficiency and toddlers who are risk of vitamin deficiencies in general if they aren't given appropriate supplements.

Supplements aren’t needed at all when you give formula. It’s only considered after weaning. As she’s a premie if she doesn’t grow very well you may be told to wean a bit earlier than you would otherwise - in that case you may often get told to supplement. But otherwise you only do it from 6 mths. Don’t forget omega 3 supplementation either - it’s nice to get them in the habit of taking both before they become toddlers.
