we have booked a week in a holiday cottage in Sheildag in the Highlands of Scotland on the shore of the loch it looks amazing and plenty of places to drive to going end of August didnt even contemplate going abroad this year as we are hoping to do a big one to Sturgis USA motorbike rally next year

NefretForth · 22/04/2021 19:49

Silver wedding next year. We really want to go to Venice on the Orient Express and stay in an amazing hotel, but not if we have to wear masks everywhere and be treated like plague carriers! I’m resigned to not getting our trip.

HelplessProcrastinator · 22/04/2021 20:52

I have cancelled our trip to the Netherlands in May/June half term for a second time. Not attempting to leave the country this summer. Have several UK trips booked/in planning stages. We are hoping to get away for 2 weeks over Christmas to Germany and Denmark but we shall see how bad COVID gets over the winter again.

We live in the SW so can access the sea and countryside even if we stay home. So glad we left London 20 years ago for career suicide and lack of culture.

IdblowJonSnow · 22/04/2021 21:01

We're going to Fife for a week. Kids have never been to Scotland and I've not been for years. Would appreciate any recommendations anyone has please?

We like walking, castles, the occasional museum etc.

purrswhileheeats · 22/04/2021 21:03

I want to go to Greece in September. Unfortunately where I live I won't be going anywhere for the foreseeable future, we're looking at another lockdown in the next couple of weeks.

Allthingspeaches · 23/04/2021 17:29
@Allthingspeaches,would it be a place to visit with children? Ours are 13, 11 and 9.We have thought about going for Christmas 2021 if it was possible.
It's a great place to take kids actually. They love kids over there and there's lots for them to do. I've been with a 6 year old before and they had a fantastic time. They actually went from being terrified in their swimming lessons to swimming independently just from being in the pool all the time.

I think the ages of your children would work really well. I'll be taking a 3 year old and a 4/5 month old this time so probably a more hotel based trip this time but your children will love doing water sports/wildlife sanctuaries/etc. X

We're booked to go to Kefalonia at the end of June - it's a roll-over from last year, so actually booked in 2019! We'll both be double-vaccinated by then and able to do the 10 day quarantine so we'll go if we're allowed.

We've also got a week booked in August to go to Scotland - a lodge on the edge of Loch Goil so we're looking forward to that. We were booked for a New Year package in Scotland last year which got cancelled so hopefully we'll be able to do that this year.

It's my 60th this year and our 10th wedding anniversary so we were planning a trip to Vancouver and an adventure cruise in Alaska but obviously that won't happen this year now. Fingers crossed for next year

Family in UK and Suffolk

Holiday 1 is in May to the north of Scotland. We are flying from England, hiring a car and driving the NC 500, stopping in hotels en route. It's a rearranged holiday from last year. It's now looking like we should be okay to go.

Holiday 2 is a fortnight down south - driving, via and visiting Bristol, A couple of places in Cornwall, coast in Devon and then Bath. Again this looks like it should be okay to go.

Holiday 3 is October half term and is to the Disney and Universal parks in Florida with 19y Dd. We are hopefully but everything is moveable/refundable if not. We booked it hoping for the best but knowing it may need to be moved. 🤞🏻

We did manage a fortnight in France, with a day/night in Germany last summer which was great, though we went by train and hire cars.

Abraxan · 23/04/2021 18:04

@gogoinamercedes

Scotland would love to welcome you. Our tourist industry and I am including our hotels, restaurants, tea rooms, B&Bs and self-catering, is desperate for visitors this year to counterbalance the effects of the past year. A large percentage (not sure of the exact %age) of the population are employed in this industry. I, myself, am a former Hotel Manager. Quite apart from the economics, we have the most beautiful scenery which is free; walks for all levels of ability and difficulty and historic sites and castles. Come to Scotland.
That's lovely to hear. The small hotels we have booked have all been so welcoming and keen that we'd hate to have to rearrange or cancel again.
vinoandbrie · 23/04/2021 18:20

Cornwall in July which I’m feeling confident about.

In a mad moment between Christmas and New Years I booked a week in Greece at the end of the summer holidays. Hoping this will happen, time will tell!

Hdiebfhs · 23/04/2021 18:44

@Abraxan
Did this last year. What areas are you staying in?

HUCKMUCK · 23/04/2021 18:52

We’ve just bought a caravan so will be staying in this country this year and may venture to Europe next year.

We have saved for and had to cancel a 3 week trip to California with our 2 DCs so we will still do that as soon as we feel we won’t be at risk of having to cancel again. We’ll happily wait another year or two if we have to for that.

Pheebs2021 · 23/04/2021 20:44

We was meant to be in the states this spring which was cancelled, next year is my husbands big birthday so think we're going to take 3 weeks and see some of Japan.

The Scotland trip?

This is our route (the numbers are nights in the area)
We are starting at In Ernest (flying there) and then going clockwise round.

Are you hoping to get away on holiday this year? Or next ? If so where ?

Enjoy Japan. We went in 2019 and it's one of my most favourite holidays.
PolarnOPirate · 25/04/2021 09:55

We’ve booked Greece for aug 2022, and Portsmouth and London for this year 😃😃😃

HowToBringABlushToTheSnow · 25/04/2021 10:01

Devon for a week at the end of May, and then hopefully to our place in the South of France in August 🤞🏻 we’ll have a long weekend in the Lakes too, we adore the Lake District. We’ll go camping as well in Dorset some weekends. I really miss our adventures!

BrownEyedGirl80 · 25/04/2021 10:20

I'm in Australia, I cannot wait to be able to come back and visit my family and friends in England. I haven't been back for 2.5 years and I'm really really missing everyone.

That's not going to be this year though... so for now it's local trips and maybe a few days in another Australian city in the July school holidays.

Would love to holiday in Japan in the next couple of years too.

uggmum · 30/04/2021 04:12

I have booked holidays for this year-

May, Isle of Wight
July, Cape Verde
September, New York
October, Mauritius
November, Morocco

I think Cape Verde is unlikely, it is on the red list at present. If it is cancelled I will look at the green list and pick somewhere else instead.
New York and Mauritius were previously cancelled holidays from last year.

I have annual leave left so I might try to add another holiday in December.

I love travelling and I can hardly wait to leave the country.

KatherineJaneway · 30/04/2021 04:13

Not going away this year. Will travel next year though - hopefully!

Frownette · 30/04/2021 04:20

I'm easy (like a Sunday morning) as my friend is on the beach and I have the keys. Nothing abroad.

katscamel · 30/04/2021 06:02

Random weekends away in the UK to see friends, Istanbul....asap to catch up with friends and do some shopping.
Dubai, as a meeting point to meet up with friends in Qatar, Kuwait and other Emirates. Possibly around Xmas for parents Gold Wedding Anniversary (both have been before to visit me when I worked there and liked it). Next year, .. lots of trips back to Turkey, possibly take mum to Japan while she's still physically able to go. Not enough holiday for much else 😢
