I want to get to Germany if possible

OP posts:
reluctantbrit · 22/04/2021 07:55

We have a trip booked to Spain in August, moved on from last year and are in a "maybe hopeful" stage. But we also have a cottage in Chester as a back-up booking. We need to make a decision by end of June.

@LieLikeALoungeroomLizard I am German and so far people from the UK are now allowed to come to Germany but I wouldn't go at the moment. I am desperate to see my mum and my PIL but they have still sky high numbers, lots is closed and we don't have any plans for this year apart from may be a trip just before Christmas. A shame as this year was supposed to be our Germany-holiday year.

DowntonCrabby · 22/04/2021 07:56

Elsewhere in Scotland, I live on the other side of Scotland.

TheChosenTwo · 22/04/2021 07:57

We just had a week on the Jurassic coast, it was just blissful to be by the sea, eat fish and chips with a pint, paddle...
We’ve got nothing else booked this year but if we do it will be UK based.
Usually have a couple of uk and a couple of abroad breaks a year, really missing getting off a place to a wall of heat hitting my skin but it’s not worth risking the quarantine for dh coming home again if rules are relaxed enough to allow for travel so we’ve decided to stay put for another year.
Next year, Caribbean holiday!

SallyCinnamon3009 · 22/04/2021 08:06

Suppossed to be going Turkey on 17th May (not cancelled yet) and again in October. Confident October will go ahead and happy to go in May if able to

gogoinamercedes · 22/04/2021 08:23

Scotland would love to welcome you. Our tourist industry and I am including our hotels, restaurants, tea rooms, B&Bs and self-catering, is desperate for visitors this year to counterbalance the effects of the past year. A large percentage (not sure of the exact %age) of the population are employed in this industry. I, myself, am a former Hotel Manager. Quite apart from the economics, we have the most beautiful scenery which is free; walks for all levels of ability and difficulty and historic sites and castles. Come to Scotland.

Allthingspeaches · 22/04/2021 11:24
@Allthingspeaches,myself and DH have talked about Thailand, would love to see it.

We went to Lake Como in April 2019, absolutely stunning place.
It's gorgeous! Well worth a trip at some point. Not to mention the food mmm

VanillaSpiceCandle · 22/04/2021 12:19

I don’t think I’ll be going abroad again this year. Everything is so changeable. We’re going to Edinburgh and York which is booked for May. I’ll have to cancel a European holiday booked for July which has already been pushed back twice. I’d like to go to the coast - living in the midlands means I haven’t seen the sea since July 2019!

Mammymar · 22/04/2021 12:27

@Allthingspeaches,would it be a place to visit with children? Ours are 13, 11 and 9.We have thought about going for Christmas 2021 if it was possible.

Beans13 · 22/04/2021 12:32

Going to London twice this year for long weekend breaks, then Edinburgh for a week in November.

Potentially might go on a last minute trip abroad in July if allowed with covid etc.

Next year I plan on going to Japan and Greece.

Toilenstripes · 22/04/2021 12:37

Hoping to do a California road trip early next year. I think this summer we will just enjoy our garden.

BlueLobelia · 22/04/2021 12:37

This year I wish to go to to Jersey and maybe if I feel courageous enough to Iceland.

Next year i dearly want to go to Greece to see my best friend who moved there in 2019 after marrying and is homesick and very alone as her parents live in New Zealand.

BlueLobelia · 22/04/2021 12:40

and.... pre DCs DH and I used to spend about 4 days before christmas in Vienna. If that was a chance this year my cup would runneth over.

MojoJojo71 · 22/04/2021 12:47

I have a caravan booked for a week in the school holidays near Druridge bay, Northumberland. Not quite the 3 weeks in Australia that I had planned for this year but looking forward to getting away.

zafferana · 22/04/2021 12:55

We're due to go to the USA in August. We're US citizens, but at the moment it's not looking particularly hopeful. We have two weeks in the UK booked as back up (fully cancellable with Airbnb). We have nothing else booked/planned, but in a normal year we'd go abroad several times and I can't wait to get back to that being the case again.

Silkiecats · 22/04/2021 12:57

We are just sticking with a UK holiday this summer - a week in North Devon in a castle with swimming pool on the coast where will take boat trips and swim with seals. Then will go by helicopter to Isles of Scilly and come back by small plane.

In theory we are supposed to be going to Borneo next year (have some credits left for flights from cancelled 2020 trip though thankfully in end only lost £650 on that trip including the credits). Can't see it happening though would be great if it did. Have an asd child which makes things more difficult and have health conditions making insurance options restricted. The 2020 one paid out nothing.

Then there's the issue of DH's Mum who is in her 80s and alone is in France. DH has not seen here since Feb 2020. But even if both countries allow, which is almost never, its £1k in tests plus don't know if ASD child will cope with testing and the border isn't a great place to find that out especially as I don't drive. At least she has others close by but horrible situation.

Lake District this year. Wanted to either visit family in Canada or go to Japan next year but we’ll see how things go. I won’t book anything for next year at this stage.

Highly recommend Japan.

I'm not too sure yet, I want to either go to Japan or the USA but seems unlikely so hoping to get away to Europe if not then the gardens looking good too 🤣

ineedaholidayandwine · 22/04/2021 13:54

Hoping for anywhere really in August, Greece or Canaries/Balearic's if allowed, maybe the Caribbean. All depends whether my husband would have had his second vaccine dose and what the countries requirement is.
After that hoping Canaries Oct half term, Cuba next Easter holidays then a 3 week road trip round California in the summer. We did the US West Coast a few years ago and it was amazing and made us want to go back and see more.

Mydogisagentleman · 22/04/2021 13:59

Portugal in June.
That’s the plan anyway

APurpleSquirrel · 22/04/2021 14:07

We have a week in Cornwall in May half term, carried over from last year but nothing else yet. Would love to go abroad next year, maybe France or Greece or Italy.

annonymousse · 22/04/2021 14:17

We have a holiday booked to Zimbabwe. Original date was July 2020 and postponed to June this year. Obviously not going to happen this year either so has been pushed to June next year. We can just hope 🤷‍♀️

Bloodybridget · 22/04/2021 18:37

We're in London, not going overseas this year, planning holidays in Norfolk and Scotland - the latter will be quite a long road trip stopping off in York and Norfolk on the way there and back. Next year hoping to get to Austria and a Greek island.

Howmercurialislife · 22/04/2021 18:40

We were due to go to Florida in August but decided a long time ago that we wouldn't go.

Have put the deposit towards a week in New York in April 2022.

annabell22 · 22/04/2021 18:45

I just want to comeback to the UK. I work in the UAE and haven't been back since October 2018. I'm happy to quarantine at my parents house but I'm not paying for a quarantine hotel.

LoveFall · 22/04/2021 18:57

We have flights booked to visit our UK family (from Canada) in September. Still hoping it will happen. We had to cancel last year sadly. Really missing them.
