Would you tell your friend?

Hi everyone,

I’ve name changed because I don’t want there to be any chance of anyone identifying me, but I’ve been around a while now.

I could really do with some advice on something that happened with a friend on Sunday. To keep it brief, if a friend told
you something pretty shocking about themselves when they were drunk (I mean very very drunk) and now you’re not sure if they remember telling you would you tell them you know? It’s something I feel quite uncomfortable knowing, especially if they don’t know I know, iyswim?

I don’t want to be one of those annoying posters who gives half a story but I can’t give anymore details.

What would you do?

I feel like it is relevant to know what it is but if you think the right thing is to mention it then mention it.

Horsemad · 21/04/2021 20:27

Just file it away and ignore. Unless they were confessing to a murder...

AllHallowsEve14 · 21/04/2021 20:36

If it would embarrass them then I wouldn't say anything.

Flappityflippers1 · 21/04/2021 20:38

Serious crime/safeguarding etc you can’t ignore.

Something embarrassing or a stupid mistake (shagging the boss sort of thing) just forget you know

VettiyaIruken · 21/04/2021 20:40

I would not mention it unless they did.

BrilloSolar · 21/04/2021 20:40

I just wouldn't say anything. They either can't remember telling you or they have a slight recollection and are absolutely dying inside at the embarrassment of it.

Unless it is something that is now going to completely change your relationship with them - if you are going to distance yourself or cut off the friendship, then it might be worth talking to them about.

If they know that you know, and they want to talk to you about it, then they will bring it up. If they know that you know and don't want to talk about it, they won't.

CattingTime · 21/04/2021 20:41

Depends what it was. They murdered someone? Cheated on their husband? Stole a pack of bacon?

I think it depends on what they said.

MayorGoodwaysChicken · 21/04/2021 20:42

Can’t possibly say without more information.

Tiredmum100 · 21/04/2021 20:50

Yes, difficult one to call really. If it was something like they did something embarrassing I'd ignore it. If it was a crime I dunno, depends what they did.

goldielockdown2 · 21/04/2021 20:54

Nahh

Damnloginpopup · 21/04/2021 20:56

No

CornishLover · 21/04/2021 21:00

come on now. You know it depends on what was said. Drip drip drip.
