Im eating crisps for dinner

Having a lazy tea as dont have anything in, so was scouring the cupboards (no kids, so dont worry, its not child abuse...)

Found some spaghetti, tin of chopped tomatoes, tuna and sweetcorn, so whipped up a nice sauce with some italian herbs, and cooked off the spaghetti. All just about ready, draining the spaghetti to the mix into the sauce, had made plenty so was planning leftovers for lunch tomorrow, and i catch the side of the spaghetti pan when pouring the water, and drop all the spaghetti in the sink. On top of dirty dishes, so completely unusable. Spaghetti all goes in the bin, sauce is still sitting in the pan, and dp announces that he wasnt that hungry anyway. So now im fuming, hungry and eating crisps for dinner.

Anyone else had a disastrous dinner this evening to cheer me up?

i'm actually having spaghetti but i love bread with butter and crisp sandwich 😛 yummm

ScottishStottie · 21/04/2021 20:34

What makes it even worse is it was the last of the spaghetti, and theres not enough pasta in either (which is why it was spaghetti and not pasta) so its not even like i can put another lot on.

Pasta and spaghetti are normally things i have waay too much of in the cupboard, and have been making a conscious effort not to overstock, so its that little but extra frustrating 😂

I feel a bit bad now as dp seems very concerned, and offered to make me some toast, but im just in a grump now haha

Boooo

Maybe he was trying to make you feel better??

My DH dropped the lasgane I lovingly spent a few hours making. Made a lovely ragu. Nice bechemel sauce. Even made the pasta and everything.

He insisted on bringing it to the table for some unknown reason. And there was me,.DS, sis, niece and BIL all sitting nicely watching, as DH picked it up, turned around, took 3 steps and dropped the fucking thing on the floor. Luckily no-one got hurt.

Except my poor lasagne. The tray cracked and splintered, so we couldn't even risk rescuing any of it and eating it anyway. There was sauce on the floor, the cabinets, thee lights, the ceiling, all on the curtains and blinds, on the underside of the chairs somehow....

We had freezer pizza instead.

He's now not allowed anywhere near a lasagne 🤣

Do you have bread? Crisp sandwich with butter and ketchup! Mmmmmmm.

CattingTime · 21/04/2021 20:39

(yes, I am fat)

ScottishStottie · 21/04/2021 20:40

😂 the poor lasagne! That would be heartbreaking after all the work that goes into making it! Was your dp sheepish after that one?

Yes i did look at the spaghetti in the sink and contemplated just serving it anyway, but just couldnt do it.

It sounds like such a basic meal im upset about, but im not normally very good at rustling up a meal out of nothing (i like recipes and planned shopping trips for ingredients) so was quite proud of myself with this one!

Oh well i still have the sauce and we are eating it tomorrow whether it tastes nice or not 😂

How annoying OP!

I would put the sauce aside for an easy supper tomorrow, pour myself a glass of wine, and just have crisps and wine and maybe a yoghurt. Then when you feel a bit hungover tomorrow night you just need to (successfully) cook some pasta et voila.

That lasagne story made me wince. I regularly make lasagne, spread over two days because it's a faff and the ragu is nicer on day two anyway, and I would be HORRIFIED if someone dropped the fruits of my labour.

I had cold chips, had a bad day with my 6 month old daughter today so couldn't be bothered to make anything. She had a meltdown just as the chips were ready so I put her to bed while they went cold.
I did have salted caramel ice cream for pudding though.
Just getting her back to sleep for the third time Sad

Aw don't worry, we've all been there! I once accidentally elbowed a whole family sized curry onto (our newly polished!) kitchen floor just as I was about to dish up as we were all starving... you can imagine the carnage that caused and it was splashed all up the kitchen units and on the walls! It looked like a crime scene that you'd see on CSI or similar... We ended up eating the (already cooked) basmati rice with naan bread and chutney in stunned silence!

As an aside could you put your crisps in some bread and butter and have a crisp butty? I love that now and then with a nice strong cuppa...

Jenjenn · 21/04/2021 20:44

Sounds like you now have a headstart on tomorrow's dinner with the sauce made. Glass half full op Smile enjoy the crisps.

BeyondMyWits · 21/04/2021 20:46

I decided I had enough of cooking so had a large, creamily delicious custard slice for dinner. Everyone else at work, so just me to eat what I want. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

ScottishStottie · 21/04/2021 20:47

@irishterrier no wine unfortunately but there is vodka and ive poured myself a glass (small measure, lots of lemonade, but work will be fun tomorrow...!) Then shop on the way home to get pasta (and probably cake as well) and dinner is sorted. Hopefuly the sauce actually tastes ok, it might not be nice at all, but how wrong can you go with chopped tomatoes, sweetcorn, tuna and some oregano...?)

@oatsamazing hugs to you, hopefuly baby settles this time and you can have some chill time yourself 💐

Fell asleep on bed after work, woke up and wasn't hungry anymore. Dh has got a takeaway. Might have some crisps and cake instead.

ScottishStottie · 21/04/2021 20:52

Makes me feel better to hear other similar stories, i hope the curry didnt stain the floor or cabinets!!

It was just the staring at the spaghetti in the sink, and I said to dp 'can we still use it?' And there was this long silence and he replied 'well i dont really fancy it...' 😂🙈

He didnt get any crisps, he said hes not hungry so he can starve 😂

Ninkanink · 21/04/2021 21:04

I’m pretty sure I would’ve rinsed it in boiling water and served it up anyway!

(Depending on the state of the sink and the dishes, of course)

But as pp said, you’ve got pasta sauce ready for tomorrow!

I fancy crisps now.

ScottishStottie · 21/04/2021 21:07

Sink was a bit manky as hadnt rinsed it out properly from yesterdays dishes.... Blush

Contemplated rinsing it but was too annoyed at that point, so when dp said he wasnt that hungry i sccoped it all up and threw it in the bin 😂

Jealous. Im counting calories and trying to get rid of 'baby weight'. Id love a crisp dinner.

Buzlightyear1 · 21/04/2021 21:25

My son wanted to eat tea like a picnic. So stupid me put it all out on the floor nicely. He came running in couldn’t stop landed on the plate and slid across the floor taking the food with him🤦‍♀️ Not a great nigh lucky it was plastic plates .🤣
