Strange Money transaction

I wonder if this has happened to anyone else.
My husband sent his sister a cheque for her share in their mothers inheritance.
It came out of his account early hours of Tuesday morning then it reappeared at 4pm saying the cheque had been rejected.
Can anyone shed any light on this as I have tried to find out what's happened but nothing is relevant.
I cannot understand why it would be taken out and then put back in.
Thanks

Thanks for the messages and links.
We don't know if she's trying to get out of stopping her benefits but it does seem strange that you want your inheritance to go into someone else's account but until we see the cheque we don't know who's fault it is or maybe the bank did stop it.

She must have paid it in somewhere for the cheque to come out his account. For some reason the cheque has been recredited so it could be an issue with the cheque itself or was paid into the wrong account, etc

There’s another thread about an inheritance the person wanted it paid into a different account because they were on benefits. Many posters thought it was fraud to do this

Just a thought: there may be a charge resulting from the cheque being returned. That should come out of the estate or your SIL's share, depending on the reason for it being returned.
