Exercise bike users

Hey.

So I've finally decided to get back on my exercise bike after many years, and after about 2 years of giving up the gym plus at 10 weeks post partpartum.

I'm stay at home parent so I don't do "exercise" but I am on my feet most of the day. I also only have about 10-15 where the kids are both napping and/or doing something where I can sneak off and get on the bike.

I'm managing about 5k in 10 minutes or so, and I'm doing this 5-6 times a week.

My questions are :
Any other excerise bikers out there? What are your times sort of like? Trying to work out if my speed is good or poor to start off with.
And my plan is to get fit enough to use my normal bike with the kids trailer on it to go local trips - will using the bike build up my strength for this?

My kids are both big kids (99 percentile for both weight and height, both of them) so I feel I need to build up my strength a bit.

I wouldn't compare distances off an exercise bike, they're all calibrated so differently, even ones of the same make & model vary. I'd crank the resistance up if you're planning to tow a trailer!

I don't want to really compare, it's more checking if my time for that rough distance is a good starting point. That's what is giving me a rough target, guidance and motivation.

If you're pushing yourself then it's a good distance!

I don't think you can compare, because the bikes are so different and it will depend on what mode or resistance your training at. But anything is better than nothing!

If both your kids are heavy and your planning to cart shopping around, make sure your brakes are fully functioning and good enough to take the extra weight. Especially if you have any hills nearby...
