Deutschland 89 - possible spoilers

Anyone else watching this? I love it and like the previous series think it gets better as the series progresses. Nor sure if I'm totally up to date but just watched the episode with the Kohl speech where Nicole goes to Martin's flat and finds someone in the armchair... who was it meant to be???? We had to Google 'Sabine' who left the note (she's from the druggie couple who kidnapped them in Frankfurt) but who did she kill? DH thinks it was Annet (Martin's ex) because there was a little montage of her just after, but she's in Moscow isn't she? And Nicole doesn't know her. Could it be Martin's mother? Not sure why they didn't show who it was. Any theories?

It’s Annette. Nicole has met her through the school I assume.

Presumably the actress didn’t or couldn’t agree to be in series 3.

Any reason you aren’t binging them all on All4? All episodes have been out for a while.

Ah thanks. I like watching week by week to have time to think about each one. I just wasn't sure if I missed something.

I’m surprised how much I like Schweppenstette this series. Being an Opa suits him.

I found this a bit confusing also but I'm sure it's Annet. Was just a bit odd the way they did it without bringing back the actress, and I also thought she was in Russia. I like watching it weekly too.

OK all over now. I do like the subtlety of some scenes you think are going to be high action but aren't. I am not clear why the CIA guy said he couldn't have any witnesses and shoot if he wasn't going to kill Martin. Why bother? They didn't explain what really happened.

I wondered the same thing @33goingon64, it didn't make sense to me.

I enjoyed it though, it's been such an interesting series. I need to find another foreign language drama to fill the gap, love how I actually have to pay attention rather than check my phone!

Beware the following could have spoilers, I’ll add an extra spoiler warning but before that I don’t think I’m covering anything from after the body was found in the flat.

Some of this is my interpretation and opinion.

It is Annetts body in the flat. It isn’t explained why she is there, but as Martin hasn’t sent Max to her in Russia she has presumably come to get him. She may possibly have come back to Germany due to all the events with the wall and reunification etc
The note reveals that Sabine killed Annett. Note that when Martin rescues Nicole and Max from the Sabine and Carla terrorist cell and kills Carl, she promises she will meet Martin again (you could interpret that as ‘not a threat but a promise’) it’s personal.
Sabine has presumably gone to Martin’s flat to get him, but comes upon Annett and is able to make things even - ‘an eye for an eye, you took my family now I’m taking yours’
(It’s proof of who killed Annett but did you notice that it’s in Nicole’s hand still when she runs out?)

Not a spoiler - Martin and Nicole have argued about being set up by his father.
As just Max’s new teacher she wouldn’t recognise Annett, but would know enough about her from Max etc.

Nicole could just be a teacher, and is Martin’s ‘type’. Being able to arrange things with the Russian soldiers can just be coincidence as circumstances make sense on their initial meeting.
But in the world of Deutschland 8- there are rarely coincidences so she could be another agent working for someone, and could have all the intel on anyone

This might be a spoiler if you have not seen far enough in but Russians are still trying to get Max to take him. They may still be just collecting him for Annett and don’t know that she came to Martin’s flat or was killed, but they may know and just want Max to keep control over Martin
