Lost my cat and am heartbroken

My much loved family cat has gone missing. (He is in another country with my mother, one where microchips are not used). We have tried everything, put out litter, put out his blanket, put up posters.... No luck. It has been a week and I think he is lost.

I haven't been able to sleep worrying if he is hungry or thirsty. It's very hot in my home country right now so thirsty worries me a lot. I know there are people dying, but I feel so very sad. My DD is heartbroken too, and it has already been a very hard year for her.

Have hope. My boy Maine Coon..love of my life went missing for 7 weeks. I cried every day and went walking the streets every evening for 7 weeks. Then one day I went to fill my car with fuel, about a mile from our house, and weirdly turned left, instead of right out of the garage... no idea why.. and suddenly a cat shot across the road. It was my Morphy. I slammed the brakes on, left the car where it was and ran to the bushes and called.. and he came.
He was skeletal, covered in rabbit fleas and didn't seem to recognise me, except he knew my voice. The vet reckoned he had been hit by a car and sustained some brain damage and couldn't find his way home.

He lived another 7 beautiful years and never went far again.

My Mum had a cat go missing for a whole year!!! (we think he got into a van as he was nosy) He turned up out of the blue with very worn pads... somehow he had returned.

So don't give up hope yet!!!

Thank you all for the sympathy. I know catlovers will understand. I am sorry to use the words 'heartbroken" when so many people are dying and ill because of Covid. He really was a family membr though. My mother is redoubling her efforts. I am praying though I am not much of a prayer.

I really hope he turns up. Get people to check their sheds/garages. We lost one of our cats for a few days and I was frantic, but she turned out to have been locked in the local bakery!

That's amazing StillMedusa.

Our cat went missing for four months once, when a man randomly phoned to say he'd found her.

Have you put the leaflets through everyone's letterboxes Op? Because not everyone sees the posters.

Hope he comes back soon OPThanks

Absolutely do not apologise for that. It is heartbreaking.

Good luck 🤞 xx

Does your cat like lying on anything that has your DMs smell? My Girlcat loves me and often lies on my things. We pegged out a worn pillowcase of mine to encourage her home when she went wandering.

It is useful to go out late at night when it's quiet with a torch and some treats. Look very high and very low. The cat may not be very far away.

I know how you feel. I've been in bits when our two have gone missing.

knackeredcat · 21/04/2021 12:58

I'm sorry, OP. I know that sinking feeling only too well. Hoping it's just a bit of an adventure they've gone on and that you're reunited soon.
